Ingrida Šimonytė, leader of the conservative list, does not rule out the possibility that the new rulers will revoke part of the restrictions adopted by the previous Seimas. However, according to politicians, this will not happen immediately.

The opposition National Christian Democratic Union of Lithuania won the Seimas elections and began negotiations on a ruling center-right coalition with the Liberal Movement and the Freedom Party.

“There will be no revolution here that the new Seimas summons suddenly, the new majority and suddenly repeals all prohibitions adopted by the old Seimas. All restrictions should be evaluated through the prism of excuses or no excuses, discussed with business and health people.

I do not rule out the possibility that some part of the requirements or regulations may change. But it will not be the case that it happens overnight or during the week. It is necessary to discuss what works and what does not work, “I. Šimonytė told reporters on the morning of the elections.

Will form a majority

The National Christian Democratic Union of Lithuania has won 50 seats and, together with the coalition partners, will have a fragile majority in the Seimas. The Liberal Movement and the Freedom Party won 13 and 11 seats, respectively. This means that the right-wing parties will have 74 representatives out of 141 seats in the Seimas.

After meeting at the Seimas on Monday evening, the presidents of the three parties issued a joint statement that they were determined to form a government headed by Ingrida Šimonytė.
