“I can say more or less firmly that the dynamic is, in many ways, favorable in all the parameters that we follow. But that does not mean that we already have reason to relax. It just means that we are on the right track, ”I. Šimonytė said after the government meeting.

The Prime Minister thanked all those who honestly adhered to the quarantine regime, especially, in the words of I. Šimonytė, “it was not possible to be by the side of all officials.” The reduced mobility of the population also shows that most people have complied with quarantine restrictions, according to the prime minister.

“The decrease in mobility has also resulted in a decrease in the number of new cases, a decrease in the number of positive tests and a decrease in pressure on the health system. <...> But until such time as we can follow new cases manually or it is possible to completely renew the medical services provided for people, some effort is still needed, ”said I. Šimonytė.

According to the Prime Minister, the quarantine decision will be valid until January 31. as at present, but some minor changes will be made.

First, children who have difficulties in distance learning at home will be able to distance learning in schools. That decision will be made on Wednesday. Another addition to the quarantine order is the introduction of social bubbles for single people.

“However, other restrictions remain in full force and effect. <...> It is possible that part of the restrictions could be changed from February, “said I. Šimonytė.

The Prime Minister did not want to predict what situation we might face in the summer.

“I’m not really a clairvoyant and it is very difficult for me to say what to expect in the summer,” said I. Šimonytė.

He said he could not share advice with compatriots who are already looking for summer vacation destinations, but noted that Lithuanians need to understand that it is unclear what restrictions will be in which countries in the world during the warm season.

Experts warn that any mitigation should be weighed with extreme caution, as otherwise a third wave and shutdown are inevitable, suggesting that the restrictions continue until at least March.

Due to the rapid spread of the coronavirus, the second quarantine was introduced in Lithuania on November 7. In mid-December, their conditions tightened significantly: many shops, sports and leisure venues were closed, the movement of people between municipalities was restricted, and meetings were held both at home and in public places.

This quarantine regime is in effect until January 31.
