According to her, the head of the NVSC does not want to understand that he cannot perform the tasks assigned to him.

“It is difficult for people to not be able to perform the tasks assigned to them. They don’t want to realize that they can’t perform the tasks assigned to them; that’s where I am here without any reference to anything in person. But I think this is a common problem. Now I hear an attempt to relegate responsibility to the Ministry of Health. The ministry, of course, has its responsibilities and must decide certain things. And some things could have been decided much better, ”said the Prime Minister.

I. Šimonytė emphasized that the director of the NVSC is the main person in charge of the organization of the work of the institution.

“However, the director of the institution is responsible for the organization of the work of the institution, and questions related to the organization of the work of the institution should be addressed primarily to the director of the institution. Even in cases where the holder the institution does not have enough resources to organize that work properly. Well, it really has to be very clear that everything possible has been done to uncover those resources and solve the problems. It seems to me that we are really losing a lot of these I have been in contact with Mr. Petraitis myself, and his approach to where his responsibility lies for the results of the institution’s work has not been very clear to me. But, of course, the decision is not in my hands. but in the hands of SAM. SAM will have to solve this problem one way or another, “he said.

ELTA recalls that, despite the declared calls of the Minister of Health, R. Petraitis refused to resign. According to the head of the NVSC, he did not hear any specific reason to question his work.

According to R. Petraitis, if there are specific deficiencies in the institution he directs or in its activities, he will not adhere to the position.
“If systemic deficiencies of the institution or of mine are identified, as head of the institution, I will definitely assume responsibility and will not avoid it,” said R. Petraitis, without avoiding criticism from politicians who criticized it.
After repeated public criticism, Health Minister Arūnas Dulkys offered R. Petraitis on Friday last week to resign as head of the NVSC.

The head of the NVSC has received much criticism for the organization of the work of the institution during the coronavirus pandemic, especially for more than 1,000 people. unaccounted deaths related to COVID-19.

On Monday, SAM reported that it had initiated an official inspection of R. Petraitis.
