Šimonytė is about a new quarantine plan: there will be no major releases in January

On Tuesday morning, the Prime Minister spoke about it on the LRT radio show “Morning Sounds”.

“Now our main task is to change the restrictions to more lenient ones. This is not just a Lithuanian problem, many countries that have released the quarantine too early, too abruptly, have faced the problem of the third wave. We would like to avoid that. “said I. Šimonytė.

He acknowledged that the government has so far had a moderate view of quarantined releases:

“There will be no radical changes until January 31. There will be those changes that we have been discussing for a few weeks, but they have such a marginal effect. {…} We will continue to monitor the situation and hope that we do not lose momentum.”

The restrictions on movement between municipalities will not be lifted until February. On what the quarantine will be like next month, the government will discuss it a bit later.

I. Šimonytė also spoke about people who had been vaccinated against the coronavirus in a row on the “Morning Sounds” program. According to the Prime Minister, they may not need a second vaccine, but this is not the most important issue at the moment.

“I think there is a problem here that a lot of people probably see as very important. We may not give you that second shot, we’ll just waste that shot. It will be like a lesson for those people. But it seems to me that these are examples of vaccination in bad taste but generally marginal, ”said Prime Minister I. Šimonytė.

Quarantine changes proposed by health experts

At a government meeting on Monday, the expert council presented proposals that should trigger the release of quarantine in the country. Experts propose that the government open schools first, but that coronavirus tests should be done before teachers and students, and it is suggested that educators and seniors can get vaccinated later.

“Start with educational institutions, not other releases. Kindergartens and schools must be a priority. Of course, that priority needs not only to be opened up, but to prepare by vaccinating teachers, high school students, and evaluating teachers and students in parallel.

It is understood that such an opening would occur gradually. First, beginners and high school graduates have to start, and then everyone else has to start, ”said Paulius Skruibis, associate professor at the Institute of Psychology at Vilnius University.

It is also proposed that the government be allowed to use social bubbles now to allow two households to communicate. If approved by the government, it would allow one person’s home to interact with another home to provide emotional and practical help to people experiencing increased stress from isolation.

Both bubbles of support would force no other close contacts outside of them. They must also wear masks indoors and must maintain safe distances.
