Where will you start managing the pandemic?
The LVŽS faction elder Aušrinė Norkienė I. Šimonytė asked to specifically list at least 5 clear jobs on how to combat the pandemic. The incoming prime minister listed the priorities.
“Not everyone agrees that the only exit strategy is vaccination. The question is how we kept the lifestyle as limited as possible until then. (…) The restrictions are likely to be more stringent. And they are necessary until NVSC can work on new cases before it breaks down, ”he said visually.
“And in the meantime, the key question is how to protect the health system,” said the politician.
I. Šimonytė explained that everyone knows what to do, but when to do it in practice is the most important aspect.
“First of all, we need to organize the processes of the National Public Health Center (NVSC), revive them, take care of the health system and prepare a normal vaccination plan so that we can vaccinate as many public as possible and free them from this prison” said I. Šimonytė.
“We will speak with experts as early as Friday. If there were a situation that required a very urgent meeting of the government, it would certainly be convened. On Saturday at the latest,” I. Šimonytė told reporters at the Seimas before that.
Why not in the Government Program?
Antanas Vinkus, a member of the LVŽS faction, asked the designated prime minister why only the Government program was presented to the Seimas and together with the coronavirus management plan.
The politician told the peasant representatives that this is a more tactical than a strategic plan.
“The strategic provisions are those related to the crisis management system. (…) And what is the coronavirus situation, the plan must be tactical. There is a lot of management there, I think it should not be specified in the Seimas resolutions. The situation is changing dynamically, it is not necessary to go to modify them in the Seimas every time ”, explained the designated prime minister.
The politician hoped not to have to live with the pandemic during the four years of the government’s work.
Peasant representative Rimantė Šalaševičiūtė asked the designated prime minister if he would suggest using residents to combat the coronavirus pandemic.
“I am well aware that some residents work more for doctors than their managers. I would like to pay attention to them, but you have to pay them an adequate salary, “said the politician.

“I agree with what you are saying. There is only one thing that should be very clear: we cannot always think of residents as a workforce, as they are overwhelmed by an abnormal workload.” Many would agree, but it is a question of conditions, “he explained.
According to I. Šimonytė, the permission of pharmacists to carry out some vaccines in pharmacies could not be applied to vaccines against coronavirus.
The vaccine that Lithuania is waiting for should be stored at a temperature of -70 degrees, so it would be difficult to implement it in pharmacies.
At the end of the meeting, the LVŽS faction presented Prime Minister I. Šimonyte with a T-shirt with the image of Kazys Grinius.
“He was not a very good president, but he was a very good prime minister,” farmer Tom Tomilin said as a gift to the prime minister.
All political groups and committees are considering
Once presented, the Government program is reviewed by the Seimas factions and Seimas committees, who have the right to invite the Prime Minister or Minister to answer questions about the Government program at a time agreed with them.
The new government is authorized to act when the Seimas, by a majority of the members of the Seimas present at the session, approves its program. Subsequently, the members of the Government must take the oath in the Seimas in accordance with the procedure established by the Government Law.
If the Government program is not approved or is returned to the Government for improvement, a new version of the Government program must be submitted to Seimas within 10 days and its consideration procedure repeated.
If the Seimas does not approve the newly formed government’s program twice in a row, the government would have to resign.
