According to the press release, I. Šimonytė notes that the record number of people infected with coronavirus and the reports of dozens of our fellow citizens dying every day published today show that the decisions made so far have not helped stabilize the situation and achieve its improvement.

“I appeal to you because we no longer have any moral or political right to delay. Every day of delay costs people’s lives and health. Decisions not made today will mean the loss of people’s lives in the next month. If the entire Lithuanian health system is ‘burned out’ and does not provide the necessary, timely and qualified care without reaching the number of hospitalized patients, the consequences will be extremely painful: the indicators of excessive mortality are already alarming, “says I. Šimonytė.

Urging S. Skvernelis to adopt stricter quarantine restrictions at today’s Government meeting, I. Šimonytė notes that if the number of deaths from COVID-19 infection continues to grow and the health care system is “burned out”, the consequences could be extremely painful.

“I am ready to publicly support and support the necessary decisions, thus sharing their responsibilities. Faced with an unprecedented crisis, when government action is killing people, we cannot and should not be guided by narrow deductions of political benefits. I believe that you, both as a former official and as a political leader currently serving as Acting Prime Minister, will act with honor and determination, ”added the future Prime Minister.

In turn, the designated Health Minister, Arūnas Dulkys, told LRT Radio that new and complex, comprehensive and much stricter measures had already been planned. According to A. Dulkis, one of the aspects under consideration is the restriction of movement.

“I think that the restrictions on circulation will also be discussed, but they should not be thought about, taking out of the context only a parking lot or a separate trade of some products. They will be omnipresent ”, repeated the minister.
