According to R.Mažeika, Lithuania has opted for soft restrictions. He urged residents to listen to the seriousness of the situation.

The doctor noted, for example, that there is a very high incidence of the disease among pregnant women.

Although there are several people who have recovered from the coronavirus, experts around the world do not yet know what the future consequences of COVID-19 will be for newborns and children.

“I must say that there are a number of miscarriages that are also found when there is a positive smear for COVID-19. That is why I want to say with these examples that young people who think they are not sick, who suffer from asymptomatic forms, are not so at all. And young people should be taken very seriously about this disease and the spread of the virus, “emphasized R. Mažeika.

According to him, today the image in the Republican Šiauliai Hospital is completely different from what we saw in the spring, let’s say, in Italy, where the coronavirus had spread in a nursing home, many elderly people were sick.

“Today I have to say that the picture at Šiauliai Hospital is completely different. Last day, we broke another fund, with an absolute majority of 20 patients with an average age of 40 to 60 years. All conditions are serious. It has been confirmed radiologically a very complex pneumonia, which covers all the lungs ”, said the head of the Republican Hospital Šiauliai.

R.Mažeika emphasized that the situation is serious. He stressed that it is approaching the limit where hospitals will be overcrowded.

“If we talk about the situation in the region, again we are probably 3-4 weeks ahead of the whole of Lithuania. Today, all hospitals in Telšiai and Šiauliai have opened COVID-19 wards. They are 80 to 85 percent full. For So there are very few reservations left. I want to say even more: the staffing problem is solved by actually mobilizing all the doctors who have the competence to treat as much as possible, “said R. Mažeika at SAM’s remote press conference.

The forecasts, with the current trend, he says, are very unfavorable.

“Because we are expected to need 65 beds for resuscitation. Imagine having to create a 60-bed resuscitation with the same staff we had. This is a doctor who sees six patients. Our fellow doctors mobilized. And we can have 40 beds, “said R. Mažeika.

New record
