The clarification of the information led the agents to the Zarasai district, some two hundred kilometers away. In a small town, once in an old canteen and shop, they found a space to grow and dry cannabis. He had all the cannabis growing equipment: ventilation, irrigation, lighting and heating systems.

The drug production cycle was continuous: new seedlings were planted each month to produce a new crop. In the interests of the conspiracy, the cultivation of cannabis was covered by the activities of a construction company.

January 14 After going to the Zarasai district, Šiauliai forensic scientists organized an arrest operation for cannabis cultivators. People aged 36 and 38 from Šiauliai were handcuffed.

It is believed that the latter man constantly lived in the laboratory of drug cultivation and production and took care of the optimal conditions of plant growth: adequate lighting, ventilation and irrigation. His accomplice, with another resident of Šiauliai, helped to harvest or plant new plants.

During the search, officers found three plastic and two mesh bags with cannabis rings ready for smoking. In addition, 69 cannabis plants already grown and 82 young seedlings, pots, soil, fertilizers and other equipment and tools necessary for cultivation were taken.

Upon learning of the arrest of the accomplices, the third of this “business partner” decided to leave Lithuania. Forensics caught him on February 2, when a 34-year-old man from Šiauliai was already boarding an intercity bus in hopes of reaching the airport and flying abroad.

A pre-trial investigation was launched against those arrested for the cultivation of large quantities of cannabis and their illegal possession of large quantities of drugs. For this, the law provides for prison sentences of ten to fifteen years. The most severe preventive detention measure for a 38-year-old suspect is monthly detention, and for his accomplices, non-custodial preventive detention measures.
