The fifth student got sick
According to data from the National Center for Public Health, 12 new cases of COVID-19 were detected this weekend in Šiauliai county, 10 of them in Šiauliai and one in Šiauliai and Akmenė districts.
Simona Abromavičienė, Acting Director of the NVSC’s Šiauliai department, reported that the cases of coronavirus infection detected over the weekend were mainly related to outbreaks: at the Interscalit company (4), at the Tau shopping center (1) . One case was imported from Finland. An employee of an educational institution fell ill in Šiauliai district and, after contact with the sick, a police officer fell ill in Akmenė and Šiauliai.
The list of four schools in the city with sick children was supplemented this weekend with another: Romuva Progymnasium. As the NVSC representative explained, the student became ill after contact with the patient.
S. Abromavičienė reported that during September, 68 people became ill in Šiauliai County COVID-19, about 90 percent of the patients were from Šiauliai city.
The manager confirmed that recently, managers of companies and institutions have more frequently turned to the NVSC for advice on how to protect workers from the spread of the coronavirus.
“Company managers need to restrict the flow of employees and enforce the use of security measures. As a result, there are problems that employees who work separate shifts mix and communicate with each other. More attention should be paid to recommendations of the Director of Operations ”, advises S. Abromavičienė.
According to the number of patients, it is the third in the country
Viktorija Palčiauskienė, head of the Šiauliai City Municipality Health Department, reported at a press conference that according to data from Monday morning, 49.3 cases of COVID-19 were recorded in 100,000 inhabitants of Šiauliai. Following the declaration of Šiauliai as a high-risk municipality, assistance to social care institutions and the Šiauliai Center for Geriatrics and Long-Term Treatment was restricted.
“We are the third in Lithuania after Tauragė and Švenčionys. Lithuania’s morbidity rate is 16.5 cases, ”the president compared.
It reported that just last week 49 new patients were identified in the city. The largest number of cases has been registered with Interscalit and cases of illness are still being diagnosed in shift self-employed workers. Also in Comco, currently suspended.
“We have a family outbreak with 5 diseases. Sick patients from the Tau shopping center are also connected to the family fireplace, ”said V. Palčiauskienė.
Last week, rapid tests were conducted for employees of educational institutions. After Friday, 221 tests were conducted at 5 institutions for 5 positive responses. The head of the department explained that these four employees of educational institutions were directed to the mobile point, where they were sampled for COVID-19 tests.
“All four answers were negative. These people are not ill at the moment and can continue to work in the usual way,” said V. Palčiauskienė.
He noted that the mobile point has intensified its work. 480 studies were conducted Monday through Friday, with 240-320 samples taken during the same period in the summer. Companies’ mobile teams still surveyed more than 150 people. The workload of the fever clinic is also increasing, it is prolonging the working hours.
The hospital has no intention of closing yet
Despite the rapid spread of coronavirus infection, a large proportion is mild to moderate. Remigijus Mažeika, director of the Šiauliai Republican Hospital, reported that 7 moderate patients were treated at the hospital yesterday. Two of them have already received initial negative responses to the tests and are waiting for more results. If negative, patients will travel home.
The hospital does not plan to close patients again and promises to continue providing scheduled care.
“Currently, we do not have any plans for the execution of which the planned aid would be suspended. We work and hope to work as much as possible with COVID-infected patients, using protective equipment, organizing flows to have a clear path of diagnosis and movement of the patient ”, commented R. Mažeika.
He agreed that there are significantly milder and more asymptomatic forms of COVID-19 than before. So a great wave of patients was expected, there was a lot of anxiety and uncertainty. Now there are no patients in resuscitation.
“We want to work, stay open to patients. If there was an increase in severe cases of ‘covidium’ in resuscitation, then a problem would arise, the operating rooms would have to be closed and seriously ill patients would be treated there. Until now, we are waiting for the flu We will see what autumn will bring, ”said the head of the hospital.
The municipality closes the door to customers
V. Palčiauskienė, head of the municipal health department, confirmed that businesses and commercial institutions feel anxious and consult more frequently about how to avoid outbreaks.
The municipal administration of the city is moving towards teleworking. Antanas Bartulis, director of the Administration, reported on the matter.
The four departments that serve customers directly will only accept them through pre-registration. It is the General Section for Reception, Civil Registry, Social Benefits and Compensation and Social Services.
“First of all, we offer to solve our problems electronically. If people cannot use it, advance information will be made. One person is given reception time and only then is the resident admitted to the premises. Renewable mailboxes at the door can leave documents there for your requests. Let’s protect ourselves, let’s use contactless services, “suggested A. Bartulis.
He stressed that wedding ceremonies will take place, but asked people to be vigilant and come to register the marriage in four.
The disease broke out where it was not expected
Stanislovas Grušas, CEO of the nonwovens factory, is already convinced of the problems that a COVID-19 chimney can cause. The group of companies it manages includes Interscalit and Comco. What actions do managers take?
“We are trying to do something. Somewhere we do preventive research for money. We verify all employees of a company because they are located in the same area. In other places, we are investigating a certain part, ”explained the CEO.
He said companies are trying to split the flows, taking breaks between shifts so that a new company doesn’t have to close when a new case of illness arises.
S. Grušas said that he had built thermal imaging cameras in companies to determine the temperature, that he had already started using protective equipment such as face masks long before, but these measures did not help to avoid chimneys.
“It just came to our attention then. After work, he sits in the cars and runs his business, he communicates,” said the businessman.
He argued that it was important to “catch” the disease at an early stage. At Interscalite, he was well under way when he first identified the case, and so it spread. Other nonwovens companies do not reduce production.
“It just came to our attention then. If a person comes to work with certain traits, we pass the shift. But it never worked. It blew up where we didn’t expect,” said S. Grušas.
