Shapoka: There is no money in the budget for the rest of the teachers

“This measure requires a series of procedures and coordination with the European Commission, so no allocations are foreseen until it is done,” the minister said in an interview with BNS.

The adviser to the Minister of Economy and Innovation, Evelina Butkutė-Lazdauskienė, says the ministry is ready to submit an application to the EC, but is awaiting a decision on financing: payments would require around 6.4 million. euros.

“The Ministry is ready to apply to the EC, but it will only be able to send it if the Ministry of Finance allocates funds for the teachers measure, only if we have the funds, we can apply to the EC,” he told BNS.

In September, the Cabinet of Ministers widely approved plans to provide 100-euro benefits to educators starting in December. Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis said then that it would be the same measure as for doctors, designed to support the business of tourism and health together.

The government awarded grants of 200 euros each to doctors, the budget for the entire measure is 10 million. euros.
