“There are two ways for a minister: either he says he knows how to make a breakthrough. Or, if you don’t see the way to do it, confess honestly and don’t take the government hostage, “says President Gitanas Nausėda.
Having previously avoided loud remarks about A. Dulkis’ later career, although he named him reluctantly and with a breakthrough, today the president is already clearly grumbling.
“I think it is first and foremost the Prime Minister’s decision. If the Prime Minister does not make this decision today, Dulkys can help the Prime Minister if he admits that it is difficult for him to cope. The path is very simple,” continues the President.
The minister himself, as usual, is inaccessible to journalists and is indifferent to criticism of G. Nausėda.
His response was broadcast by the press service of the ministry: “The way to break through is simple: continue vaccinating everyone. This week, the Government adopted and proposed to the Seimas additional important decisions necessary for the promotion of immunization. We work intensively in this direction on a daily basis. I feel the confidence of the Prime Minister and I am focused on direct work. I leave the evaluation of my work to others. “
And A. Dulkys is not the only minister to whom critics have offered to step down. Nausėda also received an appeal against the Minister of Agriculture Kęstutis Navickas. 11 members of the Council of Agriculture, unions and associations that unite the producers of milk, cereals and cattle, signed a declaration of censorship in Navicku. Farmers described up to 19 points accusing the minister of lack of competition, decreased numbers of livestock and yield.
“Milk production fell 4.7 percent. In July, prices fell, pig farming did not survive, horticulture,” says Jonas Vilionis, president of the Council of Agriculture.
“Do I have to quit for being ugly? Can not. What does incompetence mean? They have been telling me for a long time that when I fly cow manure, my IQ will increase, ”says Minister of Agriculture K. Navickas.
“We don’t see a way out, or we stay or he stays.” We do not see if, under his leadership, we will survive in agriculture or if Lithuanian agriculture will survive ”, emphasizes J. Vilionis.
Mr Navickas has the answer: “They accuse me of reducing the number of cows, although we have doubled our support for the dairy sector through concrete statements and decisions.”
K. Navickas explains that he does not understand what some farmers and farmers want from him.
“The industry, which has lived in its own bubble for a long time, reacted and we were very upset by the transparency processes,” he says.
By the way, J. Vilionis himself is a member of the Union of Peasants and Greens, which has run unsuccessfully to the European Parliament with the party of R. Karbauskis. The president of the Chamber of Agriculture speaks in contrast to Vilionis, that association is caused by individual associations.
“It just came to our attention then. One or another representative comes, trying to raise these issues politically, to show that it is important to everyone else here, but others do not support it,” says Arūnas Svitojus, president of the Chamber of Agriculture.
On the other hand, the peasants like the initiative against the Minister of Agriculture. They continue to speak of interpellation for Prime Minister Šimonyte herself.
“Perhaps it would be an interpellation for a minister if the issues were limited to one area of the ministry. Now there are many of those problems and different areas. Both Minister Dulkys and Minister Bilotaitė also have questions for the Minister of Agriculture,” says the ” peasant ”Agnė Širinskienė.
It is true that the promises of interpellations have been rejected by the peasants since the elections, they promised to translate the Minister of the Environment, Simon Gentville, from his position as soon as he was sworn in. However, the interpellation did not reach the Seimas. And now the peasants lack votes even to present an interpellation. The number of votes required is 29, and there are only 22 members left in the group. The prime minister would need 71 votes to resign. The peasants do not bury ideas and persuade those who seek opposition in other factions of the opposition, but that does not fascinate the president either.
“No one is showing such political will to form an alternative government. It must be taken into account, because, otherwise, to speak of interpellations is simply to destabilize the political situation,” explains G. Nausėda.
I. Šimonytė, who visited Kaunas itself, pretended not to listen to the journalists’ question.
“The change of ministers should be done when we see that we need to change something so that there is no gap. (…) In the health sector today, we cannot have this at all. This is a very risky action, ”said political scientist Rima Urbonaitė.
According to the political scientist, by carrying the concept of interpellation “peasants” for so long, they are simply trying to advertise. It is true that the Government is not ashamed, especially when it comes to handling the pandemic and the scandals of recent weeks, for commissioning a paid and unmarked show.
“Sometimes there is a real lack of prompt and timely response. Worse still, those mistakes are not even attempted to be recognized, a common characteristic of this Government here. It is not understandable that sometimes it is simply better to apologize,” continues R. Urbonaitė.
Yesterday, Prime Minister I. Šimonytė assured the media that she trusted Minister A. Dulkis, but also had comments.
