The Blue Flag is a recognized and world-famous eco-label.
This year, the Blue Flag will fly to more than 4,600 beaches in 46 countries around the world.
The Blue Flag certificate is issued for one season.
If the condition of the beaches no longer meets the mandatory criteria after inspection, the Blue Flag should be lowered.
The Blue Flag program has been in place since 1985. It is administered by the Environmental Education Foundation.
In Lithuania, the Blue Flag program has been in place since 2000.
Seven beaches in the country were awarded blue flags: the central beaches of Nida and Juodkrante, Palanga Birutė Park, Klaipėda I Smiltynė and II Melnragė City Municipality, Vilnius Žirmūnai City Municipality and Balsis (Green Lakes) .
