“My goal would be for us to consider a new candidacy after Easter. I will definitely delay this decision, “the head of parliament told BNS on Thursday.

“I understand how delicate the situation is and how important it is for the work in this institution to run smoothly,” he added.

On Thursday, the Seimas dismissed Adas Jakubauskas, who has been working since July last year, as director of LGGRTC. The working group that examined the situation at the center found that the director had not ensured the proper functioning of the institution, that there was a clash between staff, and that the situation publicly discussed at the center undermined the institution’s business reputation.

According to V. Čmilytė-Nielsen, the Deputy Director General Vytas Lukšys will temporarily direct the Genocide Center.

The Seimas Spokesperson said she would look for a candidate among researchers and representatives of the academic community.

“In my opinion, the scientific part and the academic part of the center should be strengthened, I will probably look in that circle,” he said.

V. Čmilytė-Nielsen did not rule out that, after the appointment of a new director, the Law on the Genocide Center could be amended by creating a scientific council made up not only of the institution’s employees.

This center investigates all manifestations of genocide and crimes against humanity and the persecution of the Lithuanian population during the occupations, as well as the processes of armed and unarmed resistance to the occupations, initiates the legal evaluation of the organizers and perpetrators of the genocide and commemorates to the freedom fighters. and victims of genocide.
