Seimas approved: the payment of sickness benefits is modified during isolation

The draft amendment to the Law on Social Insurance for Sickness and Maternity proposes to pay sickness benefit to a person during the period of isolation, but not more than 14 calendar days from the date of their arrival in Lithuania from abroad or from the day of contact with COVID-19.

The amount of the benefit would be 62.06%. the amount of the beneficiary’s compensatory earnings. This sickness benefit is only valid for people who have visited abroad for business, service or work reasons.
The bill also stipulates that in case of emergency or need for quarantine to care for a child under 8 years old or a disabled person under 21 years old, as well as a curriculum that restricts the spread of infections in an educational institution, sickness benefits. It is proposed that the sickness benefit in this case pay 65.94%. the amount of the beneficiary’s compensatory earnings.

In order to guarantee the correct application of the bill, it is proposed to provide for the retroactive payment of sickness benefits upon entry into force of the law, in accordance with the certificates of incapacity for work issued for the period after the regime quarantine, March 14.

To date, the law has not established a legal basis for the payment of sickness benefits to adults who care for isolated or disabled children, when a regime has been announced that restricts the spread of infections for a certain proportion of students in a school. educational institution.

Additional budgetary expenditures from the State Social Security Fund for the payment of sickness benefits could reach up to LTL 15 million per month. euros.
