Second case of Brazilian strain COVID-19 detected in Pasvalys district: urgent measures are taken

It will be remembered that this viral mutation is a concerning mutation because the vaccine response to this mutation is inadequate, meaning that even those who have been vaccinated against COVID-19 or have a history of illness can become ill.

For the latest case of the Brazilian virus line, COVID-19 was confirmed on May 7. Then, after an epidemiological study, specialists from the National Center for Public Health (NVSC) found that the person became infected after contact with another person infected with a coronavirus infection. A high-risk person was identified and isolated.

As soon as it received information about the case of the Brazilian virus strain identified in Lithuania, the NVSC performed all the tasks of the Minister of Health-Manager of State Emergency Operations in 2021. March 26 in decision no. V-649: Retrospective contact search by interviewing all contact persons, including low-risk persons, re-analyzed all COVID-19 cases recorded in April and May in the city of Pumpėnai, where it “came from” the case of the Brazilian virus strain, to ensure that there are no additional interfaces that have not been identified before.

The Panevėžys Department of the NVSC submitted an application to the Pasvalys District Municipality, recommending guaranteeing the possibility of testing for all residents of said area by conducting tests for the detection of COVID-19 by the PCR method. It was decided that the entire sample would be analyzed to determine if the so-called Brazilian mutation was more prevalent in the region. The NVSC asked police officers for help to ensure that controls on people in isolation were intensified and to prevent the spread of infection.

Given the possible spread of the mutated virus in Pumpėnai, we urge all residents, even those not feeling the symptoms of COVID-19 disease, to register for testing (this can be done by calling 1808 or registering online at 1808 .lt). As of Monday, everyone over 16 years of age. Vaccination of the 19th century population – We invite all residents of Lithuania to actively register for vaccination. This is the only way to stop the spread of COVID-19.

To monitor the diversity, prevalence and genome change of the COVID-19 strains found in Lithuania, a coronavirus genome sequencing process is underway at the national level. These tests will be carried out with the help of national laboratories equipped to carry out the tests. The National Public Health Laboratory (NSAID) is responsible for organizing and coordinating the large-scale coronavirus genome sequencing process.

We remind you in March. The main measures for the management of cases of coronavirus mutations are also planned: the NVSC immediately organizes a retrospective search of the source of infection in each case in which a viral line characteristic of dangerous coronavirus mutations is identified. Not only high-risk people are studied, but also low-risk people and those who have been in contact with contact persons. If necessary, NVSC, together with municipal administrations, organizes mass tests at workplaces, educational institutions, homes, mass events or, more broadly, at the geographic region level. The Police Department is conducting stricter daily inspections for compliance with isolation requirements for people who have had high-risk contact with people who have been diagnosed with a viral line characteristic of dangerous mutations of the coronavirus.

The National Public Health Laboratory (NSPL) regularly publishes more detailed information on identified dangerous strains of the COVID-19 virus, and the NSC provides epidemiologically relevant information.
