According to her, it is certainly not the case that institutions are reluctant to cooperate, but the main problem is human resources.
“As a service organization, we strongly ask for focus, goodwill, and prompt response from all partners. We all understand that we have to adopt convenient and not entirely common solutions to guarantee help to all patients, ”says A. Bilotienė-Motiejūnienė.
He added that although some facilities, such as the Švenčionys Hospital itself, had been previously agreed, there was a completely unexpected outbreak of Covid-19.

There are currently 154 patients in the clinics
According to the hospital that organizes the treatment of patients with COVID-19 in the region, the Santara clinics treat 154 patients with COVID-19, three of them children. 28 of the patients are treated in the Resuscitation and Intensive Care Unit.
A further 208 patients are treated in support hospitals: 122 at the Vilnius City Clinical Hospital, four of them in resuscitation, 43 in the Alytus V. Kudirka Hospital (four in resuscitation), 27 in the Ukmergė Hospital (two in resuscitation ), 16 patients at the Vilnius Republic Hospital.
According to the Santara clinics, the need to cooperate not only within the region, but also to share capacities between regional institutions, is becoming clear, so the burden and challenges for organizational institutions are only growing. Currently, 36 of the 47 intensive care centers for resuscitation in the region are installed in the Santara clinics.

According to A. Bilotienė-Motiejūnienė, the clinics will continue to strengthen their forces in this sector, providing services to the most difficult patients, making it necessary for other hospitals in the region to help care for the remaining patients.
The Santara clinics are used to treat patients with the most severe form of Covid-19 who do not respond to artificial lung ventilation due to respiratory failure caused by viral lung damage. Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECM) is used in these patients.
On Tuesday, 14 additional resuscitation and intensive care sites for COVID-19 patients will begin operating in clinics.
An ECMO unit is opened for patients with the most severe lung injury, where oxygen must be delivered directly to the blood to sustain life. The newly installed EKMO room can treat 7 COVID-19 patients simultaneously.
