Politician R. Žemaitaitis Delphi He stated that until the new session of the Seimas, on March 10, no news about the formation of the faction should be expected.

“Nothing, you know, absolutely until March 10th. Now the quarantine, everyone distracted, needs to speak. And they did not speak on the phone ”, explained the parliamentarian.

R. Žemaitaitis stated that 9 members of the Seimas would like in the new faction, 7 MPs are needed to form a faction.

“There is a desire to have 9 members of the Seimas in the faction to make it strong. I already know how to jump, squat, caress and plead around one. Everyone becomes a prince,” he explained.

When asked if the members of the new faction are looking only at the mixed group of Seimas members, R. Žemaitaitis said that he also looks at dissatisfied representatives of the ruling majority.

“No, there are not only other dissatisfied factions. For example, in the Freedom Group, 2 members are particularly dissatisfied recently, there are members of the Liberal Movement and a Conservative is also very dissatisfied. I did not believe either, but there are really dissatisfied”, explained deputy of the Seimas.

R. Žemaitaitis still did not want to reveal the names of these parliamentarians. He just clarified the number: 5 representatives of the ruling majority, that he knows, are not satisfied with the work of the ruling majority.

He said these dissatisfied politicians were outraged by the broken electoral promises.

“What was promised before the elections, commitments in the field of health, in the social field, everything is the other way around, the educational situation is even worse than expected. The situation in all government groups is as follows. After half a year, he understands what it means to be with the conservatives in the majority ”, he explained.

There are more potential members of the new faction – various Polish Lithuanian electoral campaigns may join – members of the Union of Christian Families (LLRA-KŠS), as well as representatives of the Lithuanian Social Democratic Labor Party (LSDDP).

R. Žemaitaitis said he supported the thoughts expressed by former Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis on the unification of the opposition. If a new faction were to form in the Seimas, it would contribute to that.

“It just came to our notice then. While the Socdems are distracted and searching for themselves, the Labor Party too, the party chairman also doesn’t see exactly which way to go here. I have already said that the largest opposition political party, that received the largest number of votes from the people, according to all logic and established practice of the Seimas, should receive the position of leader of the opposition. The political culture demands it, only that the numbers have not yet come out, “said the member of the Seimas.

He said only the united opposition could pave the way for the upcoming Seimas elections.

Three ways

The largest opposition faction of Lithuanian Peasants and Greens (LVŽS) in the Seimas announced some time ago that it had formed a shadow government. Former Prime Minister S. Skvernelis refused to participate in it, explaining that he sees more sense in the joint work of the opposition. It seems there are 3 ways to finally reach a consensus on a common opposition leader. Which one will be the chosen one?

The LVŽS has 32 parliamentarians in the Seimas, two votes are missing to appoint the position of leader of the opposition to this faction. One possible solution is to find a mixed group of Seimas members and invite two parliamentarians to join the LVŽS faction. Delphi remember that the Mixed Group of Seimas members has 13 members.

The second possible way is to unite the opposition. Currently, there are 3 factions working in the opposition: the aforementioned LVŽS, the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party (LSDP) and the Labor Party. It is likely that in such a case the position of the opposition leader will be broken in some way, as happened during the last Seimas term. Then the leader of the opposition was the Social Democrat Julius Sabatauskas, the president of the Liberal Movement Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen and the leader of the Lithuanian Christian National-Democratic Union (TS-LKD) Gabrielius Landserbgis.

The third is to wait for another new opposition faction to form in the Seimas, brought together by R. Žemaitaitis and Kęstutis Glaveckis, who left the Liberal Movement. If this new potential opposition group agreed with the LVŽS, the position of the opposition leader could also be agreed.
