“The cause of human death is related to the progression of cancer disease, and COVID-19 is considered concurrent, so the person is considered dead for other reasons,” the ministry said in a press release.

Delfi recalls that on Tuesday the National Center for Public Health informed BNS that a relative of an employee of the Kaunas Clinical Hospital who also had this disease had died of coronavirus. It was announced that this was COVID-19 death number 72

“The person belonged to the age group of 51-60 years, but due to the oncological disease also belonged to the risk group. According to preliminary data, he became infected with a nearby person who works at the Kaunas Clinical Hospital and also suffered from coronavirus, ”said Rolanda Lingienė, Head of the NVSC Vilnius Department, at BNS.

However, he emphasized that the case could still be removed from the list of coronavirus deaths and included in those who had COVID-19 but died of other causes.

“The cause of death is still being clarified. So far, the information is as it is, but in Kaunas the situation is still being clarified, because the person had really serious cancer problems,” said the NVSC representative.

According to the ministry, 71 people died from COVID-19 and another 10 died from other causes, according to data updated by the ministry on Tuesday.

A total of 1727 cases of coronavirus infection have been officially confirmed in Lithuania. 308 people still have an infectious disease and 1,338 have recovered.
