The ministry said it would present the proposal, together with the National Center for Public Health (NVSC), to the COVID-19 steering committee chaired by outgoing Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis on Monday.
According to the ministry, the fact that this single source would be in charge of providing the data was decided after evaluating “the increasing workloads, the lack of human resources and the completion of the tests of the information systems that process data.”
“This means that SAM and NVSC would stop publishing data as of November 25, but would instead publish it in the same sections as before, once a day, at the usual time, that is, aggregated and final. This data no longer they would be published on the SAM and NVSC websites, they could be found on the Statistics Lithuania websites and special websites koronastop.lt, ”says the ministry.
Among other things, it is proposed that Lithuania Statistics publish additional data on the occupancy of beds in the country’s medical institutions and the workload of all specific laboratories in the country. These data should be collected by specialists from the department of the State Health Insurance Fund (VLK), medical institutions and national laboratories, as the representatives of SAM and NVSC have done so far.
The Ministry also emphasizes that it is important to ensure the publication of data precisely in these sections as is currently the case, due to the established tradition and the needs of the media and society.
“We also note that if the media has any questions about the accuracy of the daily figures and data, Lithuania Statistics should provide feedback. SAM and NVSC would comment on the forecasts, trends, measures taken to control the spread of the coronavirus, the experience of other countries and other issues of managing the pandemic, “the report said.
When Statistics Lithuania began publishing its data based on NVSC, e-health and department data a week ago, there were discrepancies with the statistics published by NVSC on samples analyzed in laboratories.
The ministry then emphasized that the data it was publishing was more complete and accurate, and asked that these numbers be released a few hours later.
The identification of a data source for COVID-19 was requested by the Council of Health Experts convened by President Gitanas Nausėda, while emphasizing the need to publish as much data as possible.
