– In fact, Tenerife is doing very well with the spread of the coronavirus. Currently there are between 50 and 60 new cases per day, which is relatively low.
There are bars, restaurants, cafes, where up to 4 people can sit at a table. There are shops and supermarkets. Masks should be worn everywhere except restaurants and beaches. We also have a curfew from 23:00 to 6:00.
The larger theme parks like Siam Park and Loro Park are still closed at the moment, but Aqualand and other theme parks are open, with restrictions and not every day. Nightclubs and bigger hangouts don’t work.

– I have seen the police control compliance with the rules quite strictly.. Should travelers be in the mood for more officials on the streets?
– The police keep order, make sure people follow the rules, wear masks correctly, keep their distance, etc. I didn’t really realize that there were more officers. Just follow the local rules and everything will be fine.
– Tourism in Tenerife was severely affected for the first time, in February, when the hotel was quarantined. Wasn’t there at that time an idea to leave the island and return to Lithuania? How long have you been calling Tenerife your home?
– We have been calling Tenerife our home for the third year in a row. We do not think of going back. We realized that everything would have to wait and that there would probably be many new changes. During the quarantine, we had time to catch up on long-overdue work, assess the current situation, and rethink our future plans.
– Tenerife is a very popular holiday destination for Lithuanians, won’t many be coming this year for the first time?
– Tenerife is really loved by Lithuanian vacationers. We have many friends and clients who will not return for the first year. Some come from autumn to spring with children, because here we also have a Lithuanian school where children can continue their education. Some return for a shorter period of time to “recharge” their energy. All eager to travel.

– Didn’t many tourism-related businesses resist the constraints of a pandemic? Will returning Lithuanians find their favorite hotels, restaurants and cafes? How many of them have closed their doors forever?
– Unfortunately yes. Many hotels and restaurants have not opened since last spring, and it is unclear if they will open at all. Many Lithuanian friends, familiar with great ideas and old businesses, left the island.
But returning tourists will definitely find something to do. There may be a little less entertainment than before, but as I say, in Tenerife, everyone can discover what to do. You can go to the mountains, to the beach, to the hiking trails. You can kayak, sail or surf and dive. Full of tours to see whales, dolphins or fishing, or have a little fun. And of course, let’s not forget the good weather.
– Or maybe during that quarantine period there were some innovations on the island that are worth seeing, visiting, trying for tourists?
– We didn’t notice anything new. Everyone is tightening their belts and trying to wait for this period. Most of the companies closed during the quarantine period. Restaurants, hotels, supermarkets, everything was closed. There was also a limit on how long you can go for a walk and the like.
– Will holidays in Tenerife be cheaper or more expensive this year? Have you noticed that the prices of accommodation, food, car rental services have risen or simply have fallen?
– The rental price has fallen drastically compared to last year. The owners currently rent between 30 and 40 percent of the same apartments. cheaper.

– For me personally, it is always more fun to travel by car. Stop where you want, discover new and invisible places. Public transport here only buses and in the capital – trams. It happens that there are often delays, which makes it not very reliable.
– How do the locals react to the increasing number of tourists? I am glad it will help the economy. Are you worried that the number of infections could increase again?
– We are all happy to see the returning tourists. At first, there was a fear that increased flow would also increase infections, but with the introduction of the mandatory negative PCR test on arrival, I think the majority calmed down.

– You own your own real estate company. What changes have you noticed in the Tenerife market in recent years? Perhaps people are looking for housing for a longer period of time and decide to invest more actively in real estate? Has interest waned?
– We all believed that in 2020 real estate prices would drop sharply. But that did not happen. Prices fell very slightly, only a significantly higher supply emerged. So the buyer now really has more options to buy the desired property.

– You, as a local, probably know the best and most interesting places on the island. What do short-stay tourists usually see in Tenerife? Give away some of your “pearls”: do you know a very beautiful but little known beach, maybe a fantastically delicious local restaurant, etc.?
- My family and I usually like to spend our free time climbing mountains and hiking trails. We highly suggest get on The Bujero or also known as The Giants One eye with a fabulous view of the ocean and itself The Giants village.
- I highly recommend it In the evening, travel to Teide National Park to see the stars.. You cannot even imagine the panorama that opens up, the path of the birds and the shooting stars visible to the naked eye. Something incredible.
