On Wednesday, representatives from the Klaipeda Municipality met with people from Evangelical Lutheran Parish and discussed the possibility of signing the St. John Church Design Joint Venture Agreement.
“We first assessed the situation. The municipality offered the parish community a form of cooperation, how it could contribute to make this object appear in our city as soon as possible,” Gintaras Neniškis, director of the municipal administration, told the Western Express.
L. Petraitienė reported that a meeting of the parish community is scheduled for mid-October, where approval is expected to sign an agreement that the tower will be used by the Municipality.
“When we have such proof that the Municipality cares not only verbally, we will be able to inform the church foundations in Germany about it, to involve our Honorary Consul Arūnas Baublis in this activity. When we show that the state, the Municipality, is taking charge of the reconstruction of the tower, it will be obvious that the church must put more effort ”, said Klaipėda Evangelical Lutheran St. Director of the Foundation for Charity and Support to the Restoration of the Church of the Memory of Juan.
L. Petraitienė was pleased with the beautiful prospect that the rebuilt tower will be used for the needs of the city community and will be a center for tourism and observation.
Support funds sought
“St. The question of the reconstruction of the church of St. John could not be moved out of place until the general plan of the city was changed. We want to accelerate the process so that this object, which has adorned the city of Klaipeda for so long and was one of their symbols, destroyed during the Second World War, be rebuilt as soon as possible. We invited representatives of the parish community to find out what they are planning, how they are doing in fundraising. They were interested to know how the city could contribute to that project, ”said G. Neniškis.
According to him, if the city will own and dispose of the tower, it is likely that it will be built. “If we have property in this object, the city will contribute to its reconstruction. Currently the help of various funds from both our state and Germany is being sought,” said the director of the municipal administration.
According to him, the most difficult thing is to find funds for invisible paper things, that is, design. When construction begins, you are expected to be willing to donate to the church. “I think the city needs the most help right now. The design money isn’t that big, but it would fundamentally revolutionize the rebuilding process itself. In this case, we have to be active, because the parish community is small, it does not have much administrative experience, so we have to help ”, assured G. Neniškis.
