S. Skvernelis promises a safe and socially oriented budget, G. Landsbergis talks about mines to another government

According to S. Skvernelis, this fall session of the Seimas will not be very productive.

“However, a work program has been submitted. Without a doubt, the most important work is the state budget for 2021, which will be done, presented on time, safe, responsible, as always, with a social orientation, ”he said in Seimas on Thursday.

S. Skvernelis also mentioned that several bills related to the reform of the education and health systems and social needs were presented. As the Prime Minister considered, for the remainder of this term, it is really possible to do significant work left over from previous sessions of the Seimas.

“Of course, you can’t do anything, you can only do politics,” he said.

S. Skvernelis explained that they are trying to spread a rumor or a “duck” that old-age pensions will not be indexed next year.

“It is really pensions that will be indexed, our economic indicators and forecasts allow us to really do that and we will do it,” he said.

At the same time, S. Skvernelis believes that the situation of the next Seimas and the future Government will be very tense.

“I faced the same thing four years ago. There will be a minimum time for some adjustments, but in principle it will take time to approve the budget. Moreover, it seems that this time it will be necessary to make a great effort to urgently approve the new Seimas and the Government. Because, according to the ruling of the Constitutional Court, on December 23 the country will be left without a government, unless there is a new government. There is a really difficult period before the elections, who will have the responsibility to keep the people going or keep working, or someone else to start. It will not be an easy time, “emphasized S. Skvernelis.

I think we will see the budget at the last minute.

According to G.Landsbergis, this year’s state budget is not collected, reserves losses are calculated. Therefore, he believes that next year’s budget will be marked with mines.

“And I imagine that the rulers will do everything possible so that the public sees the budget at the last second. In other words, you and I will probably see the budget just before the second round. When people vote, they will not even know for what future they are voting, that is, for what awaits them next year, ”said the opposition leader of Seimas.

Speaking about pensions next year, G. Lansdberg explained that the law provides for their indexation.

“Similarly, if the gross domestic product falls, reaches negative values or is expected to have negative values, indexing should be stopped. This issue was raised by the President of the Republic of Lithuania due to the fact that it can be seen that such a problem may arise. This requires an amendment to the law and could have been foreseen in the same way in the past and there are more problems with it. The biggest problem, in my opinion, is that the Sodra reserve has been released, starting of which this indexing was to be carried out next year. That is, at the beginning of the year, the Sodra reserve exceeded 400 million euros. Now, at least as far as we know, there are just over 100 million euros. it means 300 million. The euro is missing, “he said.

It’s obvious to Landsberg that this is a big problem. Borrowed money, he said, is just as spent. “This is a mine that was left to another government,” he repeated.

G. Landsbergis said he was surprised that more than 500 bills were included in the work program for the fall session of the Seimas.

“Once again, it reminds us that Lithuania, being the leading state according to the foreseen laws, does not withdraw from that position. I think that the factions should decide only on priority works and perhaps refuse to introduce new laws, only to complete the works that started earlier, ”said the opposition leader of the Seimas.
