„S. Cichanouskaja met with the Foreign Ministers of Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and Canada to discuss international investigations into the crimes of the Lukashenko regime, documentation of atrocities, assistance to human rights organizations and the media, and supporting athletes. He also raised the issue of moving the Minsk Hockey World Championship to another location, “Anna Krasulina told BNS.

The 2021 Hockey World Championship is scheduled to take place from May 21 to June 6 in Minsk and Riga. Part of the major group competitions and championship matches are scheduled to take place in the Belarusian capital: semi-finals and fights for first and third place.

In August, Latvia applied to the International Hockey Federation (IIHF) to find another country to take over the organization of the Belarus tournament, but so far the IIHF has not discussed the changes and intends to organize the tournament where It is planned.

Cichanouskaja met with Canadian Foreign Minister Francois Philippe Champagne and the Baltic ministers in Vilnius on Friday.

Following the meeting, the four ministers issued a joint statement pledging to hold annual meetings and expressing their support for Belarusian civil society and the Coordination Council led by Cichanouskaya.

Former presidential candidate Cichanouskaya arrived in Lithuania in August, shortly after refusing to acknowledge Aliaksandr Lukashenko’s victory in the rigged presidential elections in Belarus.

In recent weeks, he has met with many Western leaders, including German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron.

Since the August 9 elections, Belarus has been plagued by tens of thousands of protesters, with millions of Belarusians detained. As a result of eyewitness reports of violence by militias and torture of detainees, the international community condemned Lukashenko’s regime and imposed sanctions on him by Western countries.
