Irish low-cost carrier Ryanair will suspend all flights from Vilnius until April.
As can be seen on the Ryanair website, tickets for flights from Vilnius airport cannot be purchased until the end of March. As of April, tickets are still available for purchase.
A spokesman for Lithuanian airports Tadas Vasiliauskas says the company plans to reduce the volume of flights in all European countries.
“It is currently known that the airline will simply not operate flights from Vilnius airport until the end of March due to the challenges caused by the pandemic and existing travel restrictions, but this does not really mean closing the base,” said T. Vasiliauskas to BNS.
He claimed that he did not have any confirmed information that the company planned to close the base at Vilnius airport.
The Dublin-based airline announced on January 7 that it had cut its flight schedule for the first quarter of 2021, taking into account the restrictions imposed on COVID-19.
“Starting Thursday January 21, Ryanair will significantly reduce its flight times, so there will only be a few (if any) flights to and from Ireland or the UK,” Ryanair said.
The company has lowered its annual forecast for passenger traffic as more and more flights are canceled, as the world still fails to control the spread of the coronavirus.
According to the company, in the financial year that ends in March, it will transport between 26 and 30 million. passengers. Compared to the previous forecast, this figure has been reduced by 35 million.
