Russia regrets that the United States rejected Putin’s proposal to hold public presidential talks

“No other opportunity has been seized to find a way out of the stalemate in US-Russian relations,” the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

“The United States bears full responsibility for this,” the statement added.

Putin offered Biden virtual talks last week when the US leader equated the Russian president with a “murderer.”

The Russian leader said the “live” debate could take place on Friday or Monday.

Biden told reporters on Friday that he would speak to Putin “at some point.”

In an interview with ABC News last Wednesday, Biden was asked if he thought Putin, who was accused by many of ordering the poisoning of opposition figure Alexei Navalna, could be described as a “murderer.”

Mr. Biden replied, “Yes.”

Putin then mocked Biden’s comment, citing kindergarteners as saying that “whoever speaks of another speaks for himself,” and wished the 78-year-old American leader “health.”

Biden’s comments have caused the most serious crisis in bilateral relations in recent years. Moscow has called on its Washington ambassador for “urgent consultations”, taking an unprecedented step in the recent history of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
