The fourth weekend fight in the Regional Basketball League (TOPsport-RKL) has ended. Up to 6 out of 10 games ended with a difference of 6 points or less, and 2 of them won by just 1 point. More on this in the RKL Weekly Review.
Probably the most anticipated Division A match of the week took place between Tauragė “Tauragė” (4-2) and Vilnius “Rivilė” (5-2). Both teams are serious about the TOPsport-RKL final four this season. Interestingly, last season the teams met in the eighth final, but the winner of the pair was not determined due to the quarantine. Before stopping the championship, there was equality in the series with up to 3 wins (2: 2).
This time victory after a moody fight 84:74 (17:23, 23:14, 24:13, 20:24) celebrated playing at home in Rivile. Before the start of the last minute of the match, “Tauragė” scored 4 unanswered points and approached threateningly – 74:80. However, the Tauragė reserve bench was punished for a technical foul for overly fiery emotions towards the judges. Benas Aleliūnas, 19, took advantage of this and made all 3 free throws, thus practically solving the problem of the winner of the match.
“The first 3 games were very hard for me, but the last two, not bad. The system here is very good, interesting, but it takes time to get used to. More work is needed. We want to take 1st place and travel to the NKL”, said Riviles player B. Aleliūnas, who scored 20 points.
Gediminas Povilauskas once again dominated the ranks of the winners (17 points, 8/9 doubles, 12 rebounds, 5 assists, 32 utility points).
Žygimantas Sirvydas excelled in Tauragė (17 points, 5/6 doubles, 2/2 trit., 5 fouls provoked, 20 utility points).
Rivile with 5 wins and 2 losses in TOPsport – RKL Division A ranks second, and Tauragė, who has 4 wins out of 6, ranks fifth.

The most interesting facts of the TOPsport-RKL weekend
Unexpected leaders. Biržai (6-1) in Division A continues their series of victories. With a minimum rotation of 8 players, coach Žydrūnas Kačinskas, who attended both battles at the weekend, came back from them as the winner. Biržai defeated Panevėžys Bangen 84:79 and broke Prienai CBet-KKSC 88:82. Biržai, who lost only the first game of the season and had 6 wins on his line, unexpectedly became the sole leader of division A.
Pool. The representatives of Tauragė (4-2) threw an orange projectile into the pool. Šarūnas Zablockis students shot 68.4 percent in the match with “Raseiniai.” accuracy. Up to 26 of the 38 settlers of Taurag reached the goal. Raseiniai did not attack worse either (59.4% from two points and 40% from triples), but Tauragė celebrated the victory 91:87.
Riestainis. Division A rookies Prienai CBet-KKSC basketball players are still looking for a path to victory. The lieutenant coaches led by LKF Cup winner Paulius Ivanauskas recognized the advantage of the league leaders “Biržai” 82:88 this weekend and with 4 losses together with Kaunas “LSU-Athlete” they are the only team “TOPsport -RKL “in Division A, which has yet to experience the joy of victory.
It is true that LSU-Athlete has only played 1 game so far. It’s obvious that Prienai’s team, which has assembled a competitive lineup and is making its Division A debut, needs time to get in, but their first win is only a matter of time. CBet-KKSC will have a good chance to “open” next weekend, when it will meet Patriots-Cement (1-2) and Bangene (1-5) from Akmenė district.
Unexpected. Pakruojis Sports Center (3-0) extended their series of victories to 3. Pakruojis SC achieved victories this weekend in spectacular fashion: 84:80 defeated Kupiškis and 88:87 defeated Kuršėnai Grafų Furniture in the last second. After winning 3 victories with the same number, Aurimas Andrušaitis, trained by Pakruojis, unexpectedly reigns in Division B, Group A.
The most productive. Dovydas Sakalnikas (Kupiškis, 2-1), who scored 32 points (season-high) in Pakruojis’ basket in Division B, did not save his team from defeat, but put on one of the most impressive performances of the season TOPsport-RKL. In 35 min. The 197cm tall heavy edge hit 8 doubles of 12, 4 triples of 8, 4 free throws of 6, bounced 8 balls, made 4 assists, provoked 8 fouls, committed 2 errors and scored 39 utility points.
Potential. Kuršėnai Sports School Grafų Furniture (0-2) suffered two defeats over the weekend, but suffered against the favorites of TOPsport – RKL Division B. Jurbarkas honorably opposed 74:88, and in the duel with Kupiškis there was only one shot to victory (87:88). If Paulius Ščipokas’ army maintains a similar level of combat, victories will soon come to Kuršėnai.
