Since last Friday morning, an entrance of less than 112 cubic meters per second has been observed in the Kaunas lagoon, so the HPP operates a hydroelectric unit with a part of its capacity: 18 megawatts (the total capacity of the power plant is 100 MW), reports the state group Ignitis.
“The water level in the Nemunas near Kaunas is decreasing. This is not an exceptional phenomenon during the dry season, but because of that we have to reduce production in Kaunas HPP and we cannot spend more water in the Nemunas, “says Rimgaudas Kalvaitis, General Director of Ignitis Production, who manages the Energy.
According to the Lithuanian Hydrometeorological Service, the inflow of water to the lagoon was 108 cubic meters per second on Monday morning, and similar data was recorded on Tuesday morning. Representatives of Ignitis Production informed relevant authorities about the situation on Monday.
The work of Kaunas HPP is planned taking into account the amount of water that flows the Nemunas in the Kaunas HPP pond – Kaunas Lagoon. The average flow of Nemunas in the power plant is approximately 280 cubic meters per second.
