“But there are so many packages that they no longer fit in the post office, so the courier goes up to him and distributes the packages to everyone who comes.

And Milda from Vilnius noted that not only parcel companies are in a rush to pick up packages, but also e-shops.

“I ordered products from the Ikea store. I got a notification that my order is ready and I can go pick it up. I couldn’t follow the same day or the next day right away. Then 4 days later, I got another email with a warning. It was written that if I don’t pick up my merchandise, my order will be canceled and the money will be returned to the bank account ”, said Milda.

Renata Dante, Ikea’s director of corporate communications for the Baltics, said that after the physical store closed on December 16, efforts, energy and as many employees as possible were directed to e-commerce.

“We focus on online customers and offer them free pick-up at specific locations in Vilnius, Kaunas and Klaipeda.

In Vilnius, orders are delivered without contact, that is, the employee takes the order to the trunk of the car, the buyer does not even have to enter the premises. Currently, parcel delivery in Lithuania can take 1 to 5 business days, and in Vilnius, where post office occupancy is very high, 1 to 7 business days, ”said a company representative from parcel.

“Package flows have already tripled compared to last year. Of course, usually before the holidays, the number of shipments increases several times. However, this year is an exceptional situation, because we will greet our relatives in a friendly way. remote, gifts travel in packages and the number of people who want to collect them before Christmas grows every day.

We record the highest growth in shipments traveling through LP Express terminals. Compared to December last year, the flow of these shipments increased by more than 200 percent. As usual, the largest numbers travel to large cities, but growth is also visible in smaller towns; in some, such as during the spring quarantine, the growth of the plots is recorded several times, ”said the representative of the Lithuanian Post.

According to him, every effort is being made to reach the consignment recipients as soon as possible.

“Shipments are routed to terminals, terminals are serviced more frequently than usual. Some even 5 times a day or on Sundays. We also ask customers who have received the shipment at the terminal to pick it up as soon as possible and thus contribute to a faster delivery of the shipment to another recipient.

When picking up a package by mail, a simpler procedure applies: just send the notification received; and it is sufficient for the courier to provide the collection code received by SMS, ”said N. Žioba.

However, according to him, the term for the storage of packages in the terminals has not changed: they are stored for 72 hours. (three days after insertion).

“Messages sent to customers when we ask them to pick up a shipment the same day have a recommendation character: just an incentive to pick up the shipment faster, because it depends on how quickly the next recipient will be able to receive the shipment However, the same message indicates that the shipment will be stored for three days as usual. If the customer does not pick up the shipment the same day, it does not mean that it will be removed from the terminal.

We try to deliver shipments as soon as possible, which is why terminals are served more frequently than usual, sometimes even late at night. As soon as the package is placed in the terminal, an SMS message is sent to the recipient; currently, when the packet flow is this high, they are sent with the call mentioned by the readers to pick up the packet today. We regret that this causes inconvenience to customers; we do our best to reach the recipients of the package before the holidays ”, explained N. Žioba.

According to him, we can only be happy that customers are responding to our request to collect shipments as soon as possible. Shipments are picked up several hours faster than normal.
