He hopes that the government will clarify the legitimacy of this census and, if necessary, take steps to stop it.
“It has been announced that the Union of Poles of Lithuania is conducting the census of the Vilnius region, in parallel to the census initiated by the Department of Statistics. It is not difficult to see the aspirations, in this way to capture as many people of Polish nationality as possible. It cannot be ruled out that some people who have entered said census may be forced to enter that nationality, although they may have had the intention not to indicate nationality or to write another nationality. Knowing that the most important administrative positions in many municipalities in the Vilnius region belong to the representatives of the aforementioned organization, it is not difficult to assess that it may be difficult for people to disobey the suggestions of the organizers of said census, ”says J. Razma.
He points out that, in addition to electronic surveys, paper questionnaires are promised.
“While it is announced that the quarantine requirements will be met, who will ensure that they are actually met? The number of COVID-19 cases in the municipalities of Vilnius County is already one of the highest in Lithuania, ”says J. Razma.
You also have doubts about the legitimacy of the collection and storage of people’s personal data.
“Does a public organization have the right to collect and store this personal data of people? Who can guarantee that the population data collected will not be altered, that it will not be manipulated, that no attempt will be made to cast doubt on the reliability of the data collected by Statistics Lithuania? ”, J. Razma asks.
This year, during the general census, the Union of Poles of Lithuania is preparing a public census – the declaration of Polish nationality.
As ELTA has already announced, Edita Tamošiūnaitė, Vice President of the Polish Lithuanian Union, has said that this campaign is a good contribution and a great help for Statistics Lithuania.
Valdemaras Urbanas, coordinator of the census, assured that this civic action would be carried out in accordance with the laws that regulate the protection of personal data. During the campaign during the pandemic, V. Urbanas stated that all the necessary requirements related to health security will be met. According to him, residents will be able to fill out a paper or electronic questionnaire form, and it will also be possible to fill out a questionnaire over the phone, which can then be signed.
Lithuanian Polish Election Campaigns: The leader of the Union of Christian Families, the Member of the European Parliament Valdemaras Tomaševskis hopes that this public action will be successful.
The politician regretted that we have such laws in Lithuania that the entry of nationality in the passport is not mandatory.
According to him, about 35 thousand citizens of the country have not indicated their nationality, which is more than 1 percent, in Vilnius county – more than 2 percent, and in Vilnius city – about 3 percent, which which means, according to the politician, that 14 thousand. the inhabitants of the capital did not indicate their nationality.
