About 260,000 signatures of TV Raskevičius, who calls himself a professional homosexual, would be removed from the Human Rights Committee that he chairs. The initiative group, which has compiled those figures, says TV Raskevičius is not doing its job properly.
The petition claims that TV Raskevičius discredits the union of men and women protected by the Constitution: the institute of the family. The petitioners call on their representation of homosexuals to represent an interest group rather than the majority of members of society. TV Raskevičius is accused of failing to respond to quarantine restrictions that allegedly violate human rights, not upholding freedom of expression when one-sided information is provided in the media without listening to those who think otherwise.
Ironically, but complaining about the limited opportunity to speak in the media, the petitioners themselves refused to comment on their initiative on the country’s most watched television news program, TV3 News.
TV Raskevičius himself refuses to speak to the petition, which has collected a quarter of a million signatures. But it is Facebook this is called “background noise”.
“I would like to invite you to a constructive dialogue, not a contradiction, because it seems to me that opposing each other and the ideas that we express will not really achieve any truth, and we all need to discuss the issues in a constructive dialogue and find mutually acceptable solutions” – he says TV Raskevičius, president of the Human Rights Committee.
It is not possible to check if there are as many signatures as are published and if they are all real, but if 258 thousand people actually signed, it would significantly exceed the votes of the Freedom Party itself in the elections. 107 thousand people voted in favor, and TV Raskevičius itself was second in the single-member constituency, receiving just over 1,500 votes.
“We fully trust TV Raskevičius as a party and as a faction, we believe him to be an excellent human rights expert and he has the absolute support and trust of the faction,” says Ieva Pakarklytė, the senior of Freedom Faction.
For the senior of the Freedom Group, this situation is similar to that of Petras Gražulis: 700 artists demand his removal from the Culture Committee.
“If Mr. Petras Gražulis were on another committee, I don’t know, environmental or nature lovers would send some other request again, then here again, probably those internal things should not be regulated, he is an elected member of the Seimas “, says I. Pakarklytė.
“Basically, he says in the petition: he is gay, we do not like him, they are a minority, he dismisses him from the chairmen of the committees and the committee in general. It would be good to come from the Seimas, from Lithuania, from this world, and some of them will probably tend to go to those extremes, ”said Eugenijus Gentvilas, member of the Human Rights Committee.
This is not the first attempt to remove Mr Gražulis from the commission. During the last term, a petition was filed demanding the removal of Petras Gražulis from the Human Rights Committee. It was signed by 16 thousand people, but then the Seimas listened to the people and moved P. Gražulis.
“I would advise Raskevičius to withdraw from the Human Rights Committee and go to the Culture Committee, to give me his place. Knowing that there are really a lot of people of other orientations in the Culture sector and a lot of sympathy, it seems to me that he would really love it, I would respect and be happy there if I came to the Culture Commission, especially those who signed that I would not be on the Culture Committee, ”says Seimas member P. Gražulis.
After the bodybuilders’ public appeal to P. Gražulis in the committee, Seimas Spokesperson Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen discussed with the senior of the Joint Group whether she wanted to find another place for Peter, but received a negative response. Therefore, Gražulis will continue to deal with cultural issues. She does not promise to take active action on TV Raskevičius, although many more people have signed for him than for Gražulis.
“I do not see the need to ask, submit a request or ask, apparently TVRaskevičius has repeatedly emphasized the importance of working in the Human Rights Committee and I have no reason to doubt Freedom Faction’s decision to delegate this member of the Seimas to that commission “, president V. Čmilytė-Nielsen.
The petitioners state that if their request is not taken into account, they may carry out public legal actions.
“Let’s get ready. They have that right. My right to be afraid of those actions, not to be afraid, to pass, to participate, to get me with a brick in the head, I also have that right. They have the right to organize legal action if They don’t like TV Raskevičius, but they will never convince me that TV Raskevičius cannot chair the committee just because he is gay, ”says E. Gentvilas.
The signatures, according to the authors, will be collected before February 15.
