Raseinians massively refuse to test for coronavirus: no means of coercion

“I already said last week why people do not investigate: there is probably a lot of negativity among people, that the corona does not exist at all, that it does not exist, that it just coincided with the cold air, and people started to get sick, not the crown People travel very slowly to the mobile consultation point.

We even spoke with representatives of the Public Health Center, who changed their methodology and immediately registered the contacts they identified in a mobile point. These residents simply refuse. If I am not mistaken, yesterday they had more than 180 calls to residents, establishing close or distant contacts, then only half of them accessed the survey. Others strictly refused, ”said Andrius Bautronis, mayor of the Raseiniai district municipality.

According to the mayor, there is no way to forcibly examine the population.

“There are no forced tests in Lithuania (also in the Raseiniai district). (…) Enough resources. With us, the mobile point remains completely empty every day. If we can take 240 samples in twelve hours, we make 200 because there is simply no one to test, people are not getting to the point.

We even launched a service so that a person without transportation can use municipal transportation. The driver makes a call, arrives with a car, takes it to the point, makes a spot, takes it home. People use that service, but it doesn’t bother me much either, ”said A. Bautronis.

The municipality has even tried to distribute a letter to all institutions and companies urging managers to encourage employees to investigate.

For his part, according to the Minister of Health, A. Veryga, the situation “continues to deteriorate.”

“I would like to address the residents of the city and Raseiniai district separately, where the disease is spreading very intensely at the moment. I want to invite, encourage you to listen to the NVSC, the calls of the municipality and actively test, all conditions are in place.

All the instructions for the second moving point are also given. We hear alarming messages that there are people who “do not believe in the virus” and do not follow science but conspiracy theories. It is not a question of religion, it is not a question of faith, it is a question of science and I would call not to endanger the health of yourself and your loved ones,

According to R. Lingienė, currently the incidence of 100 thousand inhabitants in the Raseiniai district during the last 14 days is 999.2. This is more than 22 times the Lithuanian average. Most of the attention of epidemiologists is now focused on the Blinsturbiškės welfare home.

The fireplace is still active

According to the National Center for Public Health, 49 cases of coronavirus were confirmed last day in Raseiniai district, 34 of them in Blinstrubiškės welfare homes, BNS wrote.

“31 rooms and 3 employees were infected. Subjects were assessed prophylactically according to NVSC guidelines. They continue to be tested regularly. The initial hypothesis is that the infection has spread due to asymptomatic cases among employees, ”said NVSC representative Austina Vžesniauskaitė on BNS on Friday.

According to her, a total of about 200 people live in these residences. So far, coronavirus has been identified in 11 workers and 40 rooms. Four secondary cases were also confirmed.

According to E. Jonyla, there are almost no serious patients in the nursing home, most of the patients are asymptomatic.

He also stated that the municipality plans to request the LSMU Kaunas Clinics to designate and send personnel who can work in this care institution.

“We will send such a request to provide additional doctors or residents to help in Blinstrubiškės, (…) because the workload is not that small,” said E. Jonyla.

According to him, it is not yet planned to request a local quarantine from the government, as the situation in the district is under control.

According to data from the Registry Center, the number of COVID-19 patients in the Raseiniai district currently stands at 353.

At present, education in the Raseiniai district is carried out remotely, the mandatory use of face masks in open and closed spaces has been introduced, planned events have been canceled, visits to cultural institutions have been restricted and the physical service to visitors in municipal institutions.

Meanwhile, it is recommended that private companies operate remotely.
