We also had predictions from scientists that during the pandemic, if we do not take additional measures, the number of suicides in Lithuania it can increase significantly. It is just a kind of preventive measure to prevent this from happening and we would have a decreasing number of suicides, “Ignas Rubikas, Head of the SAM Department of Mental Health, said at a press conference.

Psychological help will be available when individuals or groups are emotionally shocked by events that pose a real or imagined threat to human life or health, such as acute psychosis, suicide, attempted or threatened suicide by a loved one or coworker.

Assistance will also be available in cases where people have suffered a concussion after an accident or accident in which people have been injured or killed. The specialists will also be able to provide assistance to relatives and witnesses in cases of violent death.

Whenever possible, assistance will be provided in other crises. It is true that such assistance will only be available in cases where the mobile teams are not busy at the time indicated above.

The project for overcoming mobile psychological crises will be executed by the public institution “Crisis Management Center”. Each team will be made up of at least two psychologists specialized in crisis intervention.

Specialists will help to survive, better understand and normalize the feelings associated with the crisis, as well as find ways in which a person can help himself, advise where he can go for further help if necessary.

“There is still access to the usual sources of help, both in personal healthcare facilities and in mental health centers, and in other places where people are used to turning. (…) It is quite new that after the crisis, certain institutions and organizations will work with groups of people, communities, well, on such a large scale and in place. The heads of the institutions will also be consulted, with the help of the crisis management plan ” BNS Ingrida Bobinienė, representative of the organization.

As of Monday, it will be possible to contact specialists every day from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., including weekends, by phone +3706 16 22 252, or by email [email protected]. In addition, people may be referred for services by ambulance, General Assistance Center, fire department, police and other services.

Psychological support services will be free.

The mobile team will come to work in the community premises and institutions. Once a collaborative connection is established, the service can continue to be provided remotely.

In Vilnius county, teams will work in Vilnius and Vilnius district municipalities, as well as Elektrėnai municipality and five other district municipalities: Šalčininkai, Širvintos, Švenčionys, Trakai and Ukmergė.

In Kaunas county, teams will work in Kaunas city and Birštonas municipalities, as well as six district municipalities: Kaunas, Kėdainiai, Kaišiadorys, Jonava, Prienai and Raseiniai.

This pilot project, according to the ministry, will run until the end of the year, but if successful, it will be continued and implemented throughout the country.

The Crisis Management Center, which will provide services through the end of the year, won an open tender announced by the State Mental Health Center to provide these services. The total value of the project is 86.5 thousand. euros.
