The Lithuanian University of Health Sciences (LSMU) has announced that the only officially registered candidate in the rector’s election is prof. Dr. Rimantas Benetis, who has been the president of the LSMU Senate for the past four years.
Introducing the candidate, the LSMU report notes that R. Benetis obtained a diploma from the Kaunas Medical Institute in 1980. He was a physician, surgeon and intern at the Kaunas Clinics from 1981 to 1984. – The doctor at the Ukmergė district hospital He is a trauma surgeon and later became a cardiac surgeon at the Kaunas clinics.

R.Benetis is the author of 457 published scientific publications, during his professional career he has read numerous reports at international congresses, as well as congresses and expert training in the specialty in Belgium, the United States, France, Brazil, India, Kazakhstan, Russia, Lithuania , Poland, and many others. foreign countries. The professor consults, treats patients, supervises PhD students, lectures students and residents, conducts seminars and exercises. ELTA recalls that in 2001, the highest ranking cardiac surgeon, R. Benetis, led the team of cardiac surgeons that performed the first heart transplant operation in Lithuania.
For more than a year prof. R. Benetis is also a member of many national and international organizations that bring together cardiac surgery specialists and other specialists, and has won state awards for his work, as well as important activities for Lithuania. Of these, in 2018 prof. R.Benečius received the Cross of the Officer of the Order of the Grand Duke of Lithuania Gediminas.
