A press release issued by the municipality a few days ago stated that “after working hours, the municipality of Vilnius intends to become a center of attraction for citizens: preparations are underway to rent the premises on the 20th floor of the edifice”.

Search during competition
As the mayor cited in the report, Vilnius residents should feel like hosts in the municipality, not guests:
“Public buildings are completely underutilized after business hours, although they are by nature owned by all citizens, created or maintained with taxes paid. The 20th floor balcony of the township offers spectacular views of the city, and I think everyone should to get here ”.
The City Council has promised to announce a competition for the design of the premises in the near future, and it is expected that the tenants “create a conceptual interior of the premises adapted to various activities.”
On the 20th floor of the municipality, the meetings could continue during the days, if necessary, and in the afternoons the space would be converted into a bar, cafeteria or disco.
“There was a beach in the center, there was an open-air Vilnius cafe and even a Vilnius art gallery without a roof.
We go further and rent a non-functional and little-used meeting room on the 20th floor of the municipality for a bar or restaurant, and maybe even a club, where the action would begin after hours. During work, we could continue to have a really functional space for events and meetings. I hope that the creative and courageous Vilnius business will accept this transfer and create a new good place, “wrote R. Šimašius on Facebook.
A. Zuokas promises to participate
A. Zuokas, the former mayor of Vilnius, soon responded to this, and also wrote on Facebook that he was a good match: he was only planning the development of wine shops and bars, it would be a “specialized Italian” bubble bar.
Therefore, he will be waiting for a public, open and transparent competition, in which the bar he mentioned “will definitely offer a high price for the opportunity to entertain Vilnius residents instead of the mayor’s office.”
A. Zuokas reminded him of his political opponent and expensive repairs on the upper floors of the municipality, when it was said that the repair of the balcony only cost 60 thousand. euros, but now it has underfloor heating.
After admitting that he was joking more here, A. Zuokas raised several more serious issues.
According to him, “the law does not allow the sale of alcohol in state institutions, will the Freedom Party change the law before or after the competition?”

A.Zuokas also had only two toilets, which are not enough to open a bar or club according to hygiene standards.
“Will it be possible to use the mayor’s bathroom upstairs? Access to the 20th floor is difficult. Will municipal security be on duty and who will pay? And how long will it be possible to work? Emergency exit: I hope the mayor will be tolerant if a visitor inadvertently stays on the stairway until morning, “said A. Zuokas.
Conditions are just getting ready
The Vilnius Municipality generally responded to the former mayor’s remarks.
In particular, the terms of the 20-story municipal lease tender are still being developed and will address these issues.
“It should be noted that there is a cafeteria (on the ground floor) in the municipality, where alcohol was also sold. Regarding access to the municipality, the problem is easily solved technically, p. Eg when you schedule one or two elevators after working hours, go up to the 20th floor alone, ”said Karolis Vaitkevičius, advisor to the mayor of Vilnius.
According to him, the security guards in the building and are currently on duty 24 hours.
The terms of the lease are expected to be available in a few weeks.
