The term of the LKL president is four years.

R. Milašius has been the president since 2013. In the first elections he beat Darius Gudel and Gintaras Staniulis in the fight for office without much competition, and in 2017 he was unanimously re-elected.

The 65-year-old businessman did not win the competition this year and will be the longest-serving president in LKL history. R. Milašius’ predecessors Šarūnas Marčiulionis (1993-2002) and Šarūnas Kliokys (2002-2013) led the league for nine years each.

The long-term CEO of the IDW Group has earned his name in the business world by successfully manufacturing mannequins and other store equipment that can be seen in various countries around the world and in showrooms of the most famous brands. In recent years, R. Milasius has handed over the business management to his son and devotes his full attention to the affairs of LKL.

In recent years, there has been no talk in the country’s basketball halls about the fact that an entrepreneur can run for the position of president of the Lithuanian Basketball Federation (LKF), but in the end he decided to stay in the LKL. .

“It will be my third term. We announced a contest a month ago, but for some reason there were no candidates to fill this position. So I had to keep working. This year is very important. Three big deals with televisions and big sponsors are coming to an end , which will be very important for the future of LKL. I would like to solve this. We plan that soon the LNK group will show about 120 matches of the season on TV, all matches will be shown online. It may be difficult for a newcomer solve these problems, so I wanted to solve this matter, ”said the reelected R. Milašius.

It is true that he did not hide the fact that he would not be able to complete his full four-year term if, after signing the contracts with the televisions, a suitable person emerged who could replace him.

“I could definitely go earlier if the right and willing person came. But this is very hard work. I don’t think there are many who want to,” R. Milašius guessed.

Speaking about the four-year term, the LKL president welcomed the newly created television studio. “It just came to our knowledge then. We had a lot of things to change. It was not easy, but we faced this challenge,” said the league starter.

When asked how he evaluated the lack of competition in the second consecutive election, the LKL president smiled.

“It just came to our notice then. During this time, we have taken the necessary steps: in terms of the league’s image, development, expansion. I see a beautiful future for the league. I would like to see a great derby in the near future. This it would be important for all basketball in our country, then the image on the field would really change, ”said the league president about the increasingly famous ambitions of businessman Gediminas Žiemelis to create another LKL team in the capital.

He made no secret of the fact that he is scheduled for a 12-club championship on his next show.

“I would like to have twelve teams, play in three rounds, have a stable schedule. But the decision will be made by the clubs by voting,” revealed R. Milašius.

When asked if he had heard any complaints from club representatives who voted unanimously, the LKL president shook his head.

“The clubs had no complaints. We presented the financial report and no one had doubts ”, assured the president.

Upon serving the third term of the LKL, R. Milasius has not yet buried the next LKF presidential elections. According to the manager, he would consider participating in them if he gained a lot of trust from the basketball community.

“If there is a great desire from society, it will be possible to discuss it. When we have four-year contracts signed here, I will have achieved LKL’s most important long-term goals. In that case, you might think, but as I say, there must be trust, ”said the LKL president.

At the end of the remote conference, he said that Kaunas Žalgiris, who had recently discussed debts with the players, was not the only club in the LKL. True, other champion clubs are slow to pay players a bounty, the league president declined to reveal.

“There may be a few more clubs whose players are a month or two late, but I don’t want to say their names. Here are our internal affairs,” said R. Milašius.
