On Tuesday, it became clear that the Lithuanian basketball league will continue to lead for the next four years. Remigijus Milašius. In the league’s presidential election, his candidacy was supported by the ten members of the club. This will be the third term of R. Milasius.
At the press conference, R. Milašius answered questions from journalists and spoke about future plans, work done and the possibility of running for the post of President of the Lithuanian Basketball Federation (LKF).
“There were no candidates, so I had to continue with this work. This year is very important, since they are finalizing several contracts that condition the visibility of LKL’s image. Main contract with Internet TV, KMT contract and webcast contract. The contracts must be signed for 4 years and this is an important moment. Having seen how many commercial and airtime minutes we will have, we must plan the sponsors for next year. You may need to reduce the number of them. The news is that 120 games are scheduled to be broadcast on television. It would be difficult for a new person to deal with this problem, as it will generate a budget for the league and a much-talked about prize fund. The COVID-19 pandemic will end and clubs will be able to recover financially and buy better players Then there would be intrigue, “said R. Milasius.
– What work has been done in the last quarter?
– I had opened my program and many things were implemented there. We have created a group of ideas that create and make the image of the entire league. We have a nice studio. The most important thing is what we have to show both in the field and in the studio. If it weren’t for a pandemic, things would be better. We had to replace the product we created with another angle.
– You won the elections unanimously. What does this show?
– We are on the good way. We took the necessary steps on the issue of the image of the league. I see a beautiful future for us, which will not only come out the content, but also some derby.
– Will LKL have more teams?
– I have clearly written in my program that I am in favor of 12 clubs in the tournament. That doesn’t mean it really will, everyone has the right to vote on whether there will be 12 left or maybe 10. My vision is a 12-team three-wheel system with a stable schedule. It will be so if it is not interrupted by a pandemic. We have certain commitments with companies as to how many minutes of advertising we need to show. We do not want to reduce the number of matches, so we are optimistic about the Baltic League, where there will be 3 Estonians, 2 Latvians and our 6 teams. The clubs will decide for themselves if they want to play in that league.
– How will LKL change in the next four years?
– We want to strengthen the image of the league and do a joint project with LNK and other online platforms. We want as many teams as possible to compete in international tournaments. We will meet with FIBA and discuss the vision. We also want LKL clubs to be run on a stable basis. Some teams will need to tidy up their system. Another goal is the education of young basketball players. We need to contribute to that. I advocate that we have our own reserve teams to play in their league from October to May. Now NKL started in October and ended in February, which is not good for young people. We will strive to maintain a stable budget and consistent financial commitments. We will try to make money from the KMT tournament, not just make things “zero”.
– Why don’t more people want to run?
– It’s hard work and a lot of responsibility. Journalists hit more than saying something good. Change me and you will understand what it is like not to sleep in the summer, how to work with sponsors. Managing processes now is not easy when a pandemic occurs.
– Do the clubs have any complaints about you?
– No, I had no claims. There were no problems and everything is clear in the financial statement. The season ended on March 13. Streaming money is received at the end of the season and bonus money is paid out accordingly. Our entire business revolves around the playoffs, and there were none. LNK had overpaid us 50 thousand. and we negotiate those 25 thousand. it had to be returned. There were still companies that needed to get their money back. We are now working on advertising and we have not received any cash as shown in the report. The bank does not lend to public institutions, so no bonuses can be paid. We stopped the championship with our own hands and we all agreed in solidarity.
– Are you one of the candidates for the LKF Presidential Fund?
– This post is a bit different than LKL. That post is very important. No other country talks about it. Every mistake or failure on the pitch can be costly: Losing to the Danes would leave the national team without a tournament for two years. So how would the federation gather sponsors? If there is a strong desire from the public group, then we can discuss. I can always find someone to replace me. Then all the contracts would be signed and the main work would be done.
– What do the LKL clubs think about the fact that the Dzūkija league gave 40 thousand? loan in euros?
– That question arose and I spoke clearly: Tomas Pačės is a politician, has a party and is a member of the Alytus Council. I sat next to him during the meeting of the Committee on Economic Affairs and this strengthens our positions on these issues. Patches 2019. is the honorary president of “Dzūkija”, so the club has the right to delegate him to LKL meetings. Dzūkija ran into trouble and ran for the league. I see what happens in the clubs. And this is not the first club to ask for help. Today, Pachès promised that the money will be returned with interest in April.
– Are there LKL clubs with back wages?
– I thought it would be worse. There are some clubs where salaries are a few months behind, but I don’t want to name them. This year the licensing process will start in April and then we will see a clearer situation.
