R. Lingienė, NVSC Representative: We can only answer one in three calls

“The phone calls are answered by 11 employees, but they can only answer about a third of the calls,” he told BNS on Friday.

According to R. Lingienė, this week alone the specialists received more than 34 thousand. calls.

“As the number of cases increases, we just don’t have enough staff,” he said.

At that time, 47 volunteers are helping professionals contact those who are in contact with staff.

“Starting Monday, about 30 representatives from the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences will join the volunteers and about 40 more volunteers from other organizations will join at the end of the week,” said R. Lingienė.

However, the NVSC spokesperson emphasizes that these volunteers will not be able to provide advice to callers.

“It just came to our attention then. Volunteers cannot do this, nor can they investigate cases because it is a specific job. Volunteers will simply call the people in contact to ask about their health status. They will also ask if social assistance and psychological, ”explained the NVSC representative.

“It is important to emphasize that they cannot call the person who has been in contact for the first time. They can call only the second, third and next time, but only after the first call from specialists, when the most important information about the self-isolation, ”he added.

R. Lingienė estimates that about 200 volunteers assisted the specialists during the quarantine period.
