Speaking to journalists, the president of LVŽS Ramūnas Karbauskis avoided talking about victory. The goal is to be part of the ruling coalition.

“We would very much like to form a ruling majority in the next term <...>. We will see if there will be enough votes after the second round, now, of course, nothing will be clear after the first round, “said the politician.

He said that he believed that after the first round of the Seimas elections, it was not necessary to take the riddles of the coalition: But everything will be decided in the second round. “

R.Karbauskis did not speculate whether any representative of LVŽS will extend the victory in the first round in single-member electoral districts. According to R. Karbauskis, this could perhaps be expected unless Rima Baškienė, who is not working for the first term at the Seimas.

When asked, and what else would he see in such a coalition, the politician named the Labor Party, the Freedom and Justice Party, the Polish Election Campaign, the Union of Christian Families.

The LVŽS leader did not rule out the possibility of joining the coalition with the conservatives, only that there is a condition for that.

“I know the words of Saul Skvernelis that he does not believe that the coalition should work with the conservatives. It would probably be difficult to go with the conservatives led by Ingrida Šimonytė and Gabriel Landsbergis, but if the Christian Democrats dominate there after ranking, it may be different” noted R. Karbauskis.

The LVŽS, according to him, has gained experience in power for four years, has become a strong politician and is said to be a stronger force than before. However, in the opinion of R. Karbauskis, there were many clashes at the Seimas.

“We have really done a lot and people will respond with their decision on whether we should continue the work or not,” added the Seimas member.

There are not many people in the office where the LVŽS members met. According to R. Karbauskis, this is to protect against COVID-19.

“We protect your health. We only invite those who are single members, people from our communication group. We really think that the less we were, the less risk we would have ”, he assured.

Hard to see a coalition with the Conservatives

S. Skvernelis leads the list of LVŽS in the Seimas elections, he is the party’s candidate for prime minister. S. Skvernelis was slow to participate in the electoral campaign, reached a single debate.

Before these Seimas elections, the LVŽS leaders did not specify exactly how much they expected to win seats, however it meant the desire to be part of the ruling majority and continue with what was started.

The party also did not present the usual program of the elections to the Seimas, but highlighted several works that, in case of success in the elections, it promised to undertake first. These include the establishment of a state-owned bank, the creation of a child money indexing mechanism, the introduction of the 13th pension, and the post of deputy prime minister. During the last Seimas elections, the LVŽS won a total of 54 seats and, together with the Lithuanian Social Democratic Party, formed a ruling majority.

Over time, the composition of the coalition changed and the LVŽS ended its term in cooperation with the Lithuanian Social Democratic Labor Party, the Polish Election Campaign, the Union of Christian Families and some members of the liquidated Order and Justice party.
