Taking into account the daily ascending curve of coronavirus infection and the deterioration of the epidemiological situation in the country, the quarantine will be announced in Kaunas, as well as in other major cities from October 28.

Kaunas strengthens preventive actions and control of the coronavirus in educational institutions and in the non-formal education sector. At the moment, the quarantine regime in Kaunas is scheduled until November 11, but this period can be extended.

Work temporarily remotely

“By monitoring the general situation in the country’s educational institutions, we make decisions to minimize direct contacts in the interior. Therefore, after fall break, students in grades 5-12 will move on to distance learning for at least one week. We urge the city’s higher education institutions to follow suit. The return of the primary school children will be decided in the near future. For daycare parents during this difficult time, we recommend leaving the pups safely at home whenever possible. This will help ensure that children and educators return to institutions safe and healthy.

We are currently closely monitoring and analyzing the latest data. The duration of such precautions will depend on the amount of coronavirus in the city and the conscience of each one of us. It would be better to extend distance education than to put the health of Kaunas residents at risk, ”said Kaunas Mayor Visvaldas Matijošaitis.

As the emergency continues, parents whose children remain at home are exempt from kindergarten fees. The distance education model will be organized until November 8 and, if necessary, will continue.

All non-formal education, children’s sports training and other extracurricular activities in Kaunas also travel remotely or are temporarily suspended and carried over to a later period. The exceptions apply only to the most capable athletes who, before November 20, will participate in the contest. For them, the training will take place as usual, in strict accordance with the recommendations given by the Government.

Local quarantine: what to expect?

By registering more and more COVID-19 patients, the Government classified Kaunas and two dozen other municipalities in the country as a red zone by introducing local quarantine. Over the next two weeks, residents of these areas will need to follow additional preventive measures and recommendations that are expected to slow the second wave of the spread of the coronavirus infection.

Beginning Wednesday (October 28), protective gear that covers the nose and mouth must be worn in all public and enclosed spaces. The exceptions for the use of masks apply to children under 6 years of age and to persons with disabilities when it may be detrimental to their health. Exceptionally, the requirement to wear masks will also be deactivated for athletes, physical activity instructors, coaches and judges participating in high-skill sports competitions.

In the cultural, leisure and entertainment institutions of the city, it is mandatory to limit the flow of people to guarantee at least 10 m2. meters per person, maintaining a distance of at least 2 m between staff and visitors. When visiting entertainment venues, presentations, catering establishments, nightclubs and other entertainment venues, residents have been asked to provide personal data for some time, which will be stored for 21 days.

During the quarantine, the Kaunas City Municipality and its subdivisions will provide services and consultations remotely, contacting by email. by mail ([email protected]), by telephone (8800 20 000) or online epaslaugos.kaunas.lt. If it is not possible to receive services without leaving home, residents in the elderly and municipal administration will be admitted only with pre-registration.

Additional Recommendations

“Until the government legislation that regulates local quarantine comes into force in the city, we are guided by the COVID-19 preventive measures planned for the red zone. It is true that these recommendations can become a severe limitation at any time. A real example of this is the issue of organizing events and other mass rallies that the Government is considering. If one decision or another was made, the ruling would take effect in a few days.

I invite all Kaunas residents to follow the recommendations of health specialists regarding red zone control, ”said Paulius Keras, director of the Kaunas City Municipality Emergency Operations Center.

In addition to proactive prevention, health monitoring, and mandatory self-isolation for cold symptoms, healthcare professionals recommend choosing to work remotely, avoid larger gatherings, avoid visiting entertainment and leisure facilities, and refrain from unnecessary travel .

We have to fear not quarantine or red, but a disease that breathes more and more threateningly on people’s backs.

According to the Government’s recommendations, the provision of services in Kaunas medical institutions will not be further restricted. However, during this period, residents are prohibited from serving those over 14 years of age. elderly and healthcare patients and pregnant women. Only relatives of patients with dying or incurable diseases will be admitted to the hospital premises with the permission of the physician.

City Aid NVSC

“We have to fear not quarantine or red, but a disease that breathes more and more threateningly on people’s backs. The management of the epidemiological situation in the city continues. The telephones of the Korona 1808 hotline, established in Kaunas, have been silent since March and continue to serve thousands of residents across Lithuania.

With hundreds of new cases counting every day, we see a need to lend a hand to the National Center for Public Health. Their workload is currently inhumane, and the responsibility is fundamental: the control of patients and the establishment of direct contacts with COVID-19, the provision of individual recommendations is only a small part of the work carried out, ”said V. Matijošaitis.

Since last week, several dozen specialists from the Kaunas City Municipality Public Health Office have strengthened the forces of NVSC employees. They have taken over part of the burden on healthcare professionals: classifying and managing data, contacting for self-isolation, inspections and providing other relevant information. As the workload and the need for human resources increase, municipal administration employees would join the NVSC.
