Professor Stankūnas: The only way out may be quarantine

“I don’t see any assumption that the case curve will change direction and we will see a decline in the near future. On the contrary, I think that curve will grow ”, writes M. Stankūnas in his account of the social network.

According to the professor, the measures currently in force slightly reduce the spread of the disease, but the increasing number of cases shows that they are insufficient.

“We have to agree that the current measures (perhaps) reduce the rate of spread of the virus in society, but they are not effective enough to achieve substantial results.” It may be that our only option is to quarantine and close as it was in the spring.

Many countries have had and / or had such a repeat quarantine, so thinking that Lithuania is exceptional is a matter of excellence. But even so, I think there is still time and means for us to avoid such a global shutdown, ”writes M. Stankūnas.

According to M. Stankūnas, it is necessary to unite all the most experienced specialists to avoid universal closure and take the most effective measures to handle the virus urgently.

“The introduction of new measures to limit the spread of the virus should be based on (a) an in-depth analysis of the epidemiological data available to us (combining NVSC, NVSPL, VLK, etc.); (b) an intensive overview of the world experience; and c) mobilization of the greatest Lithuanian experts. This means that what Stankūnas, Kasiulevičius or Čaplinskas will say should not be captured. And put all and at least 10 others in a room and close them like the cardinal concoctions in the Middle Ages and not let go of them until they agreed on very concrete solutions.

There are no geniuses or saviors among us who can come up with a super successful recipe. Only by concentrating and working together can we find solutions. As the President of the United States, Harry Truman, once said, “We can do anything in life if we don’t care who gets the honor,” the professor shares his ideas on the social network.

A record number of cases

Delfi recalls that Rolanda Lingienė, head of the Vilnius department of the National Center for Public Health (NVSC), said that the number of new coronavirus cases announced on Friday was again record. The Ministry of Health reported that there were up to 281 such cases per day.

“We probably have a lot of records in the next period, we don’t see any reason not to reach them,” said the specialist.

He stated that in the last day there were no cases of coronavirus only in Alytus County, which means that the spread is recorded across the country.

According to R. Lingienė, the chimneys in nursing homes are expanding: yesterday about 30 cases were registered in the nursing homes in Blinstrubiškės, a new fireplace appeared in the nursing homes in Marijampolė.

In Vilnius there are many cases involving entertainment venues and sports clubs. About 70 cases are related to dance studies, about 40 – to other sports activities.

It states that the conditions for the spread of the coronavirus are favorable at present, as “we live an active social life and return to the facilities.”

“This creates very good conditions for the virus to spread and be transmitted,” said a specialist from the Center for Public Health.

The highest number of coronavirus cases to date is 255, it was reported Thursday.
