Professor Laiškonis evaluated the quarantine measures: there is a “but”

The measures are not too strict, but too late

But no one was in a rush to introduce the quarantine. Various other restrictions were tested and elections were held.

Less than a month later, on November 7, we reached the limit of almost 2,000 per day: 1972 new cases were registered.

According to Alvydas Laiškonis, a professor and infectologist at the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences (LSMU), more stringent measures were needed in October. And although the current measures, according to the professor, are not too strict, they are long overdue.

“The problem is that they are [naujos priemonės – aut. past.] They are late, we all repeat. But they are really necessary because the results of the last weeks show that the infectivity is unmanageable. I think much stricter measures should have been taken already in October, said the infectologist.

– At that time, however, no one wanted to introduce such measures because of the elections, as this would have affected the results of the elections. It had to be hardened before, because all the growth was due to that “liberal” quarantine.

Results will take longer

Now, according to prof. A. Laiškonis, just wait for the results of a strict quarantine. But don’t expect them to see them next week or even next week.

“It just came to our knowledge then. They will take longer to appear. The hardest part will be convincing people, society, of communication restrictions. This is the hardest thing for people to understand that future results depend a lot on their behavior and communication, ”said the infectious doctor.

It is against such communication that one of the new restrictions is directed: movement between municipalities.

“Not everyone understands and it is not clear to everyone that the transfer of the virus from one area to another depends on human migration. The hardest part will be ensuring that people do not interact with each other when local family communication occurs. Now the greatest threat is the homes among the families, which are no longer explained, the contacts have already been lost ”, commented the interlocutor.

Delfi recalls that the Government decided on Sunday to tighten the quarantine in Lithuania from Wednesday. With the new restrictions, only basic goods stores (food, pharmacy, veterinary, optics and orthopedics) will be able to operate in Lithuania. Beauty salons will be closed, movement between municipalities will be restricted and only one household will be able to communicate.

The government introduced a second quarantine on November 7. At that time, the activities of mass catering companies other than take-out were banned. Stores and supermarkets were not closed, but were subject to new restrictions to ensure an area of at least 10 square meters per customer.

The activities of health service centers that provide recreational, cultural, leisure, entertainment, sports facilities, all events and masks became mandatory in the open air. It is true that restrictions on movement for unnecessary reasons are only a recommendation.
