Professor Ambrozaitis: The third wave of the virus may begin before the vaccine is activated.

“Those deaths are a natural thing and it is a consequence of the fact that we did not follow the restrictions in the last days before the quarantine and there were still many meetings and many people got sick,” the professor told Delphi Day.

“It is painful that there are already a number of people who do not belong to the risk group due to age or comorbidities. <…> We just don’t always know the capabilities of each person’s immune system. “Maybe he has some hidden disease that he doesn’t know about, or his immune system is weak, I mean the innate immune system,” he said.

According to the professor, vaccination against the coronavirus will require about half a year for public immunity to develop. According to the professor, after the start of vaccination and the restrictions of this quarantine, Lithuania can avoid the third wave of the virus, but even after the end of the quarantine we will have to live differently.

“Even if the quarantine ends, we will still have to live differently, the virus will not disappear anywhere, we will have to protect ourselves and others,” said A. Ambrozaitis.

On the other hand, it can happen that the third wave occurs before the vaccine is activated: “This may be because the effects of the vaccine will not occur soon.”

He stressed that current vaccines are produced by modern biotechnological means and do not contain substances that cause allergies.

“Recently, even people with allergies can get vaccinated. The only condition in which vaccination is not possible is fever,” said the professor.

According to A. Ambrozaitis, it can only be speculated whether a new strain of coronavirus has already entered Lithuania.

“I think that variety already exists, because it is impossible to stop it by canceling flights, it will still spread throughout the world. It can only be stopped temporarily. However, the problem is that viral genome research is not done in Lithuania, it is done only in scientific laboratories. We can only guess if it is or not ”, said A. Ambrozaitis in the program“ Delfi diena ”.

In his opinion, you can already see that the restrictions take effect.

“It seems to me that the quarantine is already having an effect, the incidence is not increasing, from 3,000 it fell to less than 2,000 [atvejų per parą].
