Not only doctors are lacking, but also the necessary equipment to treat these patients and the beds in the wards. It is clear that the pandemic is spreading uncontrollably, with more and more people infected.

As drastic as the restrictions on the movement of people and contacts seem to be criticized, without them the current bad situation in the country will not change for the better, so an invisible but threatening disease will continue to force the entire society to live with great anxiety. Even more so when medical institutions are already experiencing it, which since November have been facing unbearable burdens and have not seen good brightness. This was highlighted by the Vice Chancellor of the Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, a member of the expert council formed by the country’s president, prof. Kęstutis Petrikonis.

“If everyone feels and understands that the COVID-19 situation is threatening, if they believe that it is necessary to comply with quarantine restrictions and they will do so, then in 2-3 weeks the situation can be expected to improve in medical institutions. But during that period, hospitals will certainly live in high tension.

Last week showed a lot of new infections in Lithuania every day, only according to the weekend data, a slight stabilization can be seen. However, we are not naive in believing that COVID cases in the country will drop dramatically in just a few days. The change in the health system can be felt only in the New Year ”, said Eltai prof. K. Petrikonis.

According to official statistics published this Monday, on the last day 397 new cases of COVID-19 were registered in Kaunas, a total of 10,627 were detected in the city. Unfortunately, 96 infected people did not survive, another 31 infected Kaunas residents died from other diseases.
