Prime Minister Saulius Skvernelis expresses his condolences on the death of commentator Vladas Janiūnas

“We lost a long-time basketball commentator, a loyal fan of this sport and a true professional. The most important events in Lithuanian basketball are closely related to the name of Vladas Janiūnas,” he writes in sympathy with S. Skvernelis.

“Thanks to him we were able to feel more clearly the joy of victories and survive defeats. Due to the death of legendary basketball commentator V. Janiūnas, I sincerely sympathize with Lithuanian family, friends, basketball fans and the entire sports community in the country, ”he says.

The portal people.lt reported on the death of journalist and sportscaster V. Janiūnas, who turned 80, on Sunday.

This was confirmed to the portal Vidas Mačiulis, the creator of the “Basketball in the world” program.

V. Janiūnas was born in 1941 in Rokiškis, graduated from the Lithuanian Institute of Physical Education, worked as a teacher at Garliava High School and as a coach at Kaunas Basketball School.

In 1978-1993 he worked as a sportscaster for LRT, then he was deputy editor of FBK Kauno, sports editor of the newspapers Lietuvos žinios and Sportas.

From 2001 to 2019, V. Janiūnas worked as the director of the Kaunas Gediminas Health and Sports Gymnasium.
