On Tuesday, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda, Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonytė and Health Minister Arūnas Dulkys, together with the Council of Health Experts and members of the Seimas Health Affairs Committee, discussed the future vaccination process in Lithuania.
Most want to get vaccinated
The meeting discussed the latest public opinion poll. According to Simon Krėpšta, senior adviser to the president and head of the Economic and Social Policy Group, most people plan to get vaccinated against Covid-19.
“Two-thirds of the country’s population over the age of 18 plans to receive a safe and affordable vaccine against Covid-19. This is a positive result. Two-thirds is the number that would guarantee the so-called” herd immunity, “Krėpšta told reporters on Monday.
Respondents were asked if they would agree to receive a safe and affordable Covid-19 vaccine. 68 percent. they answered “really yes” or “rather yes”. Furthermore, half of those who want to be vaccinated would like to do so as soon as possible.
“About half of the people would like to do this as soon as possible, as soon as the vaccine is available. This is a large number of people, about a million people in the country. You can say that two thirds of people are in favor of the vaccine and hope it can change the management of the pandemic and be an effective tool, ”said S. Krėpšta.
According to the president’s adviser, Lithuania is expected to receive several thousand Pfizer vaccines each week. The Moderna vaccine is to provide an additional vaccine stream, to be approved in early January.

Vaccinations – after Christmas
The first shipment of coronavirus vaccines will arrive in Lithuania on December 26 and vaccination will begin on December 27. The vaccines will be delivered periodically, according to an agreed schedule, to all countries of the European Union.
Doctors working in health centers will be vaccinated first. In the second phase, vaccines will be administered to staff and patients in treatment facilities that provide supportive care and nursing care. These groups should be vaccinated during the first quarter of the year.
The public will then be invited to vaccinate after vaccination of the priority groups. The first shipment of vaccines will be distributed to hospitals in Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipėda, Šiauliai and Panevėžys.
Municipalities are used for the second stage of vaccination. The directors of the municipal administrations have appointed a coordinator, a municipal doctor or another member of the administrative staff, who will coordinate the vaccination process in a particular municipality and the personal health establishments that will organize the vaccination of priority groups.
Designated coordinators will organize coronavirus vaccination at their municipalities’ treatment facilities. To ensure smooth vaccination of the population, SAM experts will work closely with coordinators.
