President Gitanas Nausėda met with members of the Council of Health Experts on Monday. During the meeting, the quantitative assessment and forecasts of the development of the Covid-19 pandemic were updated.
“Part of the meeting was dedicated to evaluating new figures and forecasts. It can be said that the quarantine is working. We see that the growth acceleration has slowed significantly. But we see that the daily numbers are not decreasing yet.
This week will be very important, which will show if we can break the pandemic curve and the numbers will start to decline or not. At the end of the week, we will see the real situation, as it will be three weeks from the introduction of the quarantine, ”Simon Kr Simonpšta, senior adviser to the president, told reporters on Friday.
He also argued that the quarantine should continue because three weeks is not long enough to see a reduction in infections.
“It just came to our attention then. Yes, we see that the two-week quarantine has an effect. Without quarantine the situation would be much worse, the number of infections we would have would be much higher.
We also see that three weeks will be too short a time to reduce the number of infections to a ratio that is easy to track and reduces the very heavy burden on medical institutions, “said the president’s adviser.
