On Tuesday, President Gitanas Nausėda together with the Council of Health Experts, Prime Minister Ingrida Šimonyte and Minister of Health Arūnas Dulkis discussed the latest trends in the spread of Covid-19 and recommendations for vaccination.
Restrictions will pay off
On Tuesday, the G. Nausėda Council of Health Experts will present an updated overview of the epidemiological situation and recommendations on the implementation of vaccination measures.
“The message of the possible scenarios for the development of a pandemic is very clear: if these measures continue to be effective and the public adhere to them, leave the movement, the meetings, we will soon see a positive impact and a lower daily number of infections .
It is true that it should be noted that this decline is quite inert. If the society really adheres to the requirements in good faith, we will have around 1000-1500 infections per day in the positive scenario by the New Year, “Simonas Krėpšta, senior adviser to the president, told reporters on Tuesday.
At that point, if the public does not comply with quarantine restrictions during the holidays, we will see a jump in the disease in January.
He added that President Nausėda considers the stricter restrictions adopted by the government on Sunday to be strict but necessary.
“We see what the situation of the pandemic is, how many new cases we have every day. It is known that 5 percent. new cases will end up in hospitals. Stringent measures are certainly needed to reduce this level of infection, to help save lives and our health care facilities, which face a heavy burden, ”said S. Krėpšta.
The doctor will vaccinate first
The experts presented proposals on the preparation for vaccination and its implementation in the municipalities: data collection on risk groups and vaccination volumes, establishment of vaccination sites, coordination of training and adaptation of personnel, provision of methodological assistance to the vaccinating personal health care institutions.
“There was talk of logistical challenges. The first vaccine to be authorized, that decision will be made on December 29. A meeting on the second authorization is scheduled for January 12. Both are “ice” vaccines, they need special logistical elements, they must be stored in a cold place, “said S. Krėpšta.
The experts also discussed the sequencing of the vaccines.
“It has been said here that the practice in all countries is to first vaccinate doctors who are at the highest risk of contracting Covid-19 and, at the same time, start vaccinating the most vulnerable groups: the elderly, people with comorbidities.” added S. Krėpšta.
