One of the most important obstacles, according to businessmen and culturalists interviewed by BNS, are the quarantine restrictions on cultural and artistic activities.
Lauras Lučiūnas, the owner of the Creative Industries company, who showed interest in this object in the discussion of the upcoming competition, told BNS with his partners from the world of art and sports that he is seriously considering participating in the rental competition.
“We are probably planning to participate, but we are looking at it very carefully and responsibly. I have a group of experts who are trying to deduct the benefits and amortization from whether those two years (lease – BNS) are realistic. We don’t want to participate just to get involved. According to L.Lučiūnas, the association of private companies, which would include him and several other companies, has a clear vision of what would work in Lukiškės.

The limitations of the pandemic and short lease terms raise most questions for another potential tenant: the Vilnius Center for Art and Technology.

And basically there is a term: we are not brokers short distance, what can they do there in two years ”, explained D. Žakaitis.
Cultural figures who have shown interest in solving the Lukiškės prison in the past are also considering entering the contest. Vilma Ramanauskienė, director of the Vilnius Kirtimai Cultural Center, said that there are no concrete solutions yet.
“Our wishes and dreams are very big and it is necessary to evaluate opportunities, especially financial matters. (…) We have a coping plan that is quite attractive, but it is based on reality, on finances, on legal matters, so for now we are seeing if the specified conditions are met or if we will deliver it. Our founder is a municipality, so his word should not be the last, “he told BNS.

Lukiškės prison complex, which stood out in 1904, has six buildings: St. Nicholas Wonder Church, administrative, production facilities, prison, as well as a prison-hospital built in the Soviet era, a fence with a checkpoint. They are included in the Register of cultural assets and have the status of a national cultural asset.
The complex was used as a custodial institution until the summer of 2019, later excursions were made here, and the prison was used as an attractive space for the filming of foreign series and films.
