The Tallboy bomb was detected near the 12-meter-deep canal in the western Polish port city of Swinoujscie. Some 750 local inhabitants were urged to evacuate before the bombing operation began. Additionally, shipping in the surrounding area has been suspended.
Weighing 5,400 kilograms, the Tallboy explosive was six meters long and contained 2.4 tons of explosives, equivalent to 3.6 tons of trotile.
Grzegorz Lewandowski, spokesman for Poland’s Eighth Coast Defense Fleet based in Swinoujscie, told the Polish state news agency PAP that the facility could be officially identified as neutralized, it no longer posed any threat and the operation was a great success. .
There is a LNG terminal in Swinoujscie, but a representative of the city’s mayor assured PAP that the infrastructure was not damaged during the explosives neutralization operation and that no people were injured.

On April 16, 1945, the RAF sent 18 four-engined heavy bombers to Lancaster, part of Squadron 617, known as the “Dam Destroyers”.
The planes dropped 12 Tallboys, targeting the German heavy cruiser Lutzow, but at least one of the bombs did not explode.
