During the preventive measure at the train station in the capital, the head of Vilnius Police Station III, Donaldas Dubaka, informed journalists about it.
This preventive measure focuses on the proximity of the holiday weekend and it is likely that there will be large flows of passengers who will also travel by train. We will also inspect the train station: the Vilnius train station, the Naujoji Vilnia train station and, of course, the bus station, ”said D. Dubaka.
Inspections at the stations will be carried out on a regular basis.
According to him, inspections will be carried out periodically both at stations and in public places. Greater attention is promised for periods when passenger flows are highest.
“Checks will be carried out on a regular basis, both inside and outside the train. These inspections that we organize are not scheduled at the exact time, they will simply be carried out not only on the platforms, but also in the waiting room ”, said the head of the commission.
According to D. Dubaka, a person who wants to go to another municipality, but does not have the documents that prove the trip, will not be able to travel by train or bus even after drafting the protocol.
“It simply came to our knowledge then. The administrative responsibility, the imposition of a fine, does not allow the passenger to go to the desired place,” he emphasized.
Mr. Dubaka noted that those who can provide documents about their real property, their declared place of residence, a visit to a doctor or work assignments will be allowed to continue their trip.
“As the holiday weekend approaches, our work is focused on informing Vilnius passengers, guests and residents that such inspections and such measures will be carried out. In order to avoid negative consequences, damage to the state of mood and vacations, “he said.
LTG Link offers the opportunity to return tickets
Linas Baužys, director of LTG Link, a train travel company, told a news conference that passengers are encouraged to stop unnecessary travel.
“Last Easter, last Christmas and New Year, when movement between municipalities was restricted, as now, we have constantly emphasized and urged all our channels, our clients, our passengers to refuse to travel if it is not necessary,” he said.
He also emphasized that people who refuse to travel will have their tickets refunded, information on this is available both at checkouts and online.
“To my knowledge, after yesterday’s message, 90 people wanted to get their money back and give up unnecessary travel,” said L. Baužys.
The head of LTG Link also indicated that the money will be returned to those people who will not be able to continue the trip by the police when they arrive at the station.
According to him, the police will carry out inspections not on the trains, but on the platforms, the objective will be to ensure that the inspections do not affect train schedules.
“We all understand that it is not like a highway … we have agreed so much with the police that these inspections should not affect the delays and departure times of the trains,” said L. Baužys.
The driving ban between the country’s municipalities, with the exception of the ring roads, came into force in Lithuania at midnight last Saturday. The ban was renewed by the government until April 6 inclusive to stop the spread of COVID-19.
In Lithuania, restrictions on movement were introduced in mid-December, and since March 16 they have been lifted in most of the country, leaving only those municipalities where the epidemiological situation is worst.
As with the previous restrictions, it is possible to travel from one municipality to another for business, travel to or from airports and seaports and bus stations, and for other important reasons.
